Help? Tailors?

Okay, I have now gone through all of my own contacts and resources and no one knows tailors who do significant alterations. I have to get a bridesmaid's dress fitted, and I've never had to get this done on my own (that is, not at the bridal shop) and frankly, I don't trust drycleaners to clean my clothes, so I'm reluctant to just go down the street to the drycleaner-that-has-a-tailor. I mean, this isn't hemming a pair of pants here.

Does anyone know of a tailor in New York who does alterations like that? Any help would be greatly appreciated. If not, then I'll just take my chances on citysearch—I just have no sense whatsoever how much it should cost, etc.

I got mine altered with only one day turnaround and it cost $104. This was for taking in the back and shoulders slightly, and bringing the hem up 8 inches. I'm not in NYC so I can't advise a place, but that's what I paid. Good luck!

You should be able to find a dressmaker. They can alter it for you and they'll do a great job. It can be expensive, depending on what all you need done.

I can poke my coz and see if she knows of anyone nearby. The odds are if she does, it'll require 20-30 minutes of train travel Southwardly.
