Yuletide!

So the sign ups for Yuletide have opened and I've worked out what four things I'm offering (which I can't say, of course) but not what I'd like to get. It's easier to pick out the things you feel confident about writing, rather than just letting yourself go about things you'd love to see, but also trust someone else to write. You have to want it, but not in a really specific way.

I've gotten my requests down to six, and I can only request four things. One of them is definite: How I Met Your Mother, any character. But with my other five, I worry that they're too obscure and I'll never match anyone and they'll come back to me and say, Clio, no one wants to write any of that shit. I know that obscurity is kind of the point of Yuletide, and I'm really not trying to play stump-the-writer here, but to avoid disaster I am asking you, dear readers, to vote for your favorite three. Here are the details:
  • LM Montgomery—Anne of Green Gables series—Leslie Moore and Owen Ford. Anne's House o'Dreams is my favorite of the series, likely because of the parallel stories of Anne and Gilbert, Miss Cornelia and Marshall Elliott (who I would almost pick), Captain Jim and Lost Margaret, and Leslie and Owen's grand romance. If Anne of the Island is about the comforts of love and the disappointments of Romance, then this is about how romance does sometimes happen, and then mellows off into love. If there's a couple I'd like to know "what happened next" to, other than the glimpse we get in Anne of Ingleside, it's Owen and Leslie.
  • Live Free or Die Hard—Lucy McClane and Matt Farrell. How cute were they when they were being held by Gabriel, together? How cute was he at the end about asking her out? How amused would John McClane be if they actually got together? How kick ass would their children be?
  • Mister Rogers Neighborhood—X the Owl and Henrietta Pussycat. My very first ship ever, when I was like, four. I adored X and his correspondence courses and Henrietta and her common sense, and felt they were a good match though I couldn't work out what kind of children they would have. Flying cats? Did they hunt mice together, share their carnivorous dinners?
  • Remington Steele—Laura Holt and Remington Steele. I don't feel a huge need to defend or explain this one, except to say that I never did see the ending, which I'm sure will come out with the DVDs, or has already, and I will need to borrow them from Holly at some point I think.
  • WKRP—Johnny Fever and Bailey Quarters. There was always a weird fascination thing between these two, and there's that episode where he's staying at her house and so they decide to make people think they're together, but they never really become a couple. It's probably just as well, as it was an absurdist sort of show, but I always wondered about that. And a story about the two of them wouldn't even have to be shippy; I just like how they talked to each other.

OMG. I bought S1 of Remington Steele just before I left Oz, and if you wrote RS fanfic I would totally read it :D

You only get one, right? If so, you're going to end up getting HIMYM regardless of what else you pick. I only did this one year, and I was so excited because Anna Karenina and The Brothers Karamazov were available (I think you picked three at the time, or else I've just forgotten my fourth). Of course I got Dead Like Me, because no one signed up for the other two.

Get one story? Yes, and I'd be really happy to get HIMYM, but I'm not sure that tons of people are going to be all about HIMYM, and I didn't want to not match. You can pick up to four, but at least three different fandoms. I just have no sense of what people do. Actually, I'm pretty shocked that the LMM Anne books count, as I always thought of it as being pretty active for a book fandom. I was only worried about the obscurity of those characters.

Also, all the unmatched requests get put in the New Year's Resolutions, and people do write them, because I wrote one—that's where the Duckie/Cameron story came from.

HIMYM is the most recent thing I'm offering, so I'll probably end up writing it, too, and again, I'm really okay with that.
