Tony! Tony! Tony!
Apr. 3rd, 2007 10:02 pmI have corrupted
ali_wildgoose, who watched with me and demanded that I play Melinda's song again.
[Poll #959913]
- Blake, "Mack the Knife." How unsurprised I am that he chose this song? Thing is, the original song is a dirgeāin "Threepenny Opera" it's really quite slow. Bobby Darin could swing it, but then again, he was Bobby fucking Darin. [insert your own Blake-you're-no-Darin statement here]
- Phil, "Night and Day." Wow, Phil, that was some boring shit. By the end of the show I couldn't even remember what he had sung.
- Melinda, "I Got Rhythm." I love that she sang the verse! What a fantastic arrangement, and what a pro she is. Excellent. (Oh, and Simon, enough with your hatred of Broadway, for reals.)
- Chris, "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." You know, he was actually pretty good. The outfit was ridiculous though.
- Jordin, "On a Clear Day." Tony loves her and so do we. Could she have looked more adorable? Again, Simon, whatever with you, because she sounded excellent.
- Gina, "Smile." God she's so Hot Topic. I thought she was better than Simon did, and hopefully she isn't going anyplace.
- Sanjaya, "Cheek to Cheek." Smart to choose such a lightweight song. He is mysteriously dressed like Tony Manero from Saturday Night Fever. All the grandmothers will vote for him. But at least he had the good sense to dance with Paula.
- Haley, "Ain't Misbehavin'." What the hell is she wearing? Does she think she's singing on Lawrence Welk or something? That arrangement was terrible, she kept kicking her leg in a bizarre way, and she never figured out what the song was about.
- Lakisha, "Stormy Weather." Kiki also took some weird trip back to the late 60s with that dress. The start was a little rocky but she found her way through that arrangement to a pretty good finish.

Date: 2007-04-04 02:31 am (UTC)Seems like every performance was erased from my mind, except Melinda's.
She was awesome, of course, and that song always reminds me of Judy which is a plus.
I have no idea who's going home. Nothing will really make an impact with me tomorrow night. Though, if I had to guess, it'd be Phil.

Date: 2007-04-04 09:01 pm (UTC)You know in Clueless when the gay guy comes to pick up Cher and he's wearing a porkpie hat and her father says just because Dean Martin is dead doesn't mean there's an opening in the Rat Pack? That's what Chris's outfit reminded me of. I mean, a vest AND hanging suspenders AND the hat AND with jeans and sneaks? Come on.

Date: 2007-04-04 09:04 pm (UTC)That said, thank god Sligh is gone. Watching him trying to swing would have been truly painful.

Date: 2007-04-05 02:13 am (UTC)Anyway, thank you! Thank you both! I thought it was just us bored out of our freakin' minds!!
I'm also glad someone else noticed that Simon was like "God, I want to be anywhere but here. Hate you all. Hate your dogs." What was up with him!?
And this was the second week in a row that he was putting on his watch as the show began. That makes me think dirty thoughts about dressing rooms.
