"I believe I saw you, Pretty Boy"

Before I even start: I suck at RSVPs lately. I keep thinking I've replied when I haven't. I intend to rectify this tomorrow, and I sincerely apologize. My head, it is in some kind of cloud, I think.

Anyway, as I've mentioned before American Idol season 1 is airing in syndication right now as "American Idol Rewind" and today while eating my lunch I caught the round of 7. It shocks me is how vile and irritating Justin Guarini is. Yuck. I don't know what the hell all the "eeeeee!" was about.

I'm always amazed when I watch these how early the dynamics were set up on this show and also how blond and hyper Ryan was that season. After Kelly Clarkson sang, Ryan ran to Simon to tease him about snapping along to her performance and called him Pretty Boy. I don't even know what to do with that bit of information.

Oh, thank god I'm not the only one rather repulsed by Justin Guarini. He just annoyed me. And while his voice was passable, he was nowhere near Kelly (who I love way too much).

And oh, hee, my friend actually managed to find me a clip of the Pretty Boy thing. I love that Ryan grabs his wrist and tells him to "watch the finger", since he was flipping Ryan off.

I never watched the first season, and only have seen a couple eps of the Rewind, but I dunno how Ryan could stand co-hosting with Dunkleman.

I think Ryan just took any opportunity to get off the stage and away from Dunkleman. Thing were more prickly than usual between the two of them that night.

"Is that why you wore the shirt?"
"Shut up"

"Why are you talking like this(a high pitched voice), Dunkleman?"


"I think it's the Zoloft, Seacrest."

And the body language reeks of "I HATE YOU." They must have had a big fight before the show or something.

You know, I have to go with the TWoP recapper here, and say that he wasn't nec flipping him off, but was sort of doing something without thinking about it too much, particularly as that isn't the hand gesture one would use in England to flip someone off. He also is fairly pleasant about it once he starts talking and admits that yes, he was dancing.

I adore Kelly. She just has an amazing voice and she just showed up and did her thing and blew everyone away. Also? Given her completely cute audition, which of course they play up in the Rewind, I can't believe that she was never shown before she made it into the semis. (And that was another Rymon moment, where Simon said she was through to Hollywood so long as she went out and told Ryan it was time to touch up his highlights.)

Dunkleman is so unfunny, and so clearly resentful of Ryan's camera hogging hustling schtick. I mean, I find Ryan-as-young-hustler to be sort of endearing and hilarious, but I like him. Also, Ryan is so bad at the scripted stuff. SO. BAD. So he's either become infinitely better, or what I think is more likely, they set up scenarios and just ad lib them in the moment.

It's funny, because it's so clear watching this that they didn't need two hosts, and which one was expendable.

Yuck. Well, he seems to have reacted simply by doing whatever he needed to do to make himself the only host of subsequent seasons, and in that he certainly succeeded.

Oh, well, yeah, he didn't seem like he was pissed at Ryan (like he has been before), and it's definitely different in England. But Ryan sure thought he was flipping him off. Silly Ryan.

Oh, yes. In my mind, it was never REALLY a contest over who should win. I know a lot of people loved Tamyra, but I never thought she had the vocal depth that Kelly has. Kelly has a lovely full voice, for lack of a better word, her voice just fills up the area. And she almost ALWAYS sang perfectly on key. (And yesss, I love that. I love that it really started at the very beginning. And that no one liked Dunkleman.)

Speaking of Dunkleman. My little sister and I were discussing the smushing of ship names and had I was saying they could be Dunklecrest! or Sea-- and she interrupted me and said she liked Dunklecrest. And then I almost died when I realised I was about to suggest Seaman. Which is what I always think of when I see Dunkleman.
