Come on, he was totally adorable tonight.
Mar. 8th, 2007 12:41 amRyan first can't find Paula, then flounces off to the upstairs lair as if he had a cape, then announces, oddly, that Simon didn't realize the show was live last night. (?) I should say here that I really like a man in a turtleneck. That said, I think black turtleneck + Diesel jeans + grey on grey pinstriped blazer = really, really, really gay. Also, anyone who doesn't understand why anyone would think Ryan is adorable should just watch him with LaKisha before and after she sang. That pillow fight thing, though, was just sort of silly.
I love that everyone was in a good mood just because it was the girls and the girls are awesome. I was out having a drink with a pal so I didn't get home in time to vote unfortunately.
Okay, so Melinda, LaKisha, Stephanie and Jordin are in. Haley is out. After that, I have no idea.

- Jordin opens with an awesome version of "Heartbreaker." Good choice to go rock. She had a few odd moments, but I thought she sounded great and she's soooooooo adorable.
- Sabrina, I wish I'd been home earlier and could have voted for you, because I'm worried that you're in trouble. I know "Don't Let Go" and I could barely recognize it for the odd arrangement and the editing that took out the verse entirely for the sake of the bridge and the runs, etc. As Randy said, I wanted a little more melody.
- Antonella sings "Put Your Records On" and I just can't even deal with her.
- Haley remains so fucking boring, that she sings a boring Faith Hill song ("If My Heart Had Wings").
- Stephanie sounds great on "Sweet Thing" but brings absolutely nothing to the song that is her own, vacillating between sounding like Beyonce and sounding like Chaka. Enough with the R&B mid-tempo, sweetie.
- I thought LaKisha actually made that song her own, and how many times have we heard "I Have Nothing."
- Gina rocks out "Call Me When You're Sober" and looks awesome and I wish I'd been home in time to vote for her!
- Melinda sings "I'm a Woman" and I just can't even deal with her because she is made of awesome.

Date: 2007-03-08 05:54 am (UTC)I'll be totally honest right now. I'm super jealous of LaKisha. I want Ryan hugs! And for him to say that throaty "You know it" again. Damn it, Seacrest.
I think I love Melinda a little more this week just knowing she has OCD. She was totally awesome.
Ones that should go home tomorrow: Haley and Antonella.
But I'm afraid that Sabrina might get lost in the bunch, and Antonella will move on to the Top 12.

Date: 2007-03-08 06:32 pm (UTC)He really was. I thought of you as soon as he came onstage.
How hilarious was Randy's comment about Paula being under the table? I loved the look on Ryan's face after that.
I voted for Melinda, Gina, and LaKisha several times, so maybe that'll make up for your absenteeism. :D

Date: 2007-03-08 10:14 pm (UTC)Melinda rules. And it's so jarring to see her perform and then, when she's done, it's like she's another person.

Date: 2007-03-08 10:51 pm (UTC)I am totally worried for Sabrina, and the only reason I think Stephanie is safe is that Haley sucked so badly and is so boring. As TWoP said, first the voters get rid of the boring, and then they move on to the bad.

Date: 2007-03-08 11:22 pm (UTC)Haley is so, like, that very nice suburban mom who can also sing. Like a scholarship pageant contestant or something. Bland, bland, bland.
I was so pleased that Gina brought the Amy Lee tonight, and I admit, I really like that song.
It will be really interesting next week when these girls start running roughshod over the boys. Last year was so evenly balanced. I had expected Chris's success to bring the rock boys out of the woodwork but that really didn't happen. Though it may have paved the way for Gina because now they know that they really can accommodate a straight-ahead rocker.

Date: 2007-03-08 11:28 pm (UTC)Melinda is just, there are no words. I think at this point, between her and LaKisha and Blake and Chris S and Chris R it's really about how the theme weeks go down, and picking good songs. Because looking at that list of guests, she won't be able to bring the jazz-inflected R&B every week. I have every confidence that she's more than smart enough to pick the right song in the pile, but so is Blake, so we'll see what happens.

Date: 2007-03-09 03:53 am (UTC)Of course. :) I'm totally girl-crushing on her right now. She seems like she would be so much fun to go out for drinks with.
