Oh, man, Simon was all about being an ass to Ryan tonight, perhaps to make up for the totally schmoopy comment of last Tuesday. All that freaking out over Ryan talking to Chris R about losing weight and hugging Chris S after he was asked to and half a dozen other things? But Ryan (who looked really hot tonight, actually) clearly wasn't having any of it tonight: "Let the old man judge, let the young man interview." (See, this is why I love them: Ryan barks back and Simon finally laughs.) Simon, if you want to claim Ryan then fucking come out and live in Massachusetts for a while and marry the boy.

Paula was really disappointed tonight and really so was I. It wasn't that it sucked, but it was sort of lackluster. I think the four that she and Randy thought deserved to be in the top 12 were Blake, Chris R, Chris S, and probably Phil.
  1. Blake sings "All Mixed Up" by 311 and I can't believe that neither Randy nor Paula are familiar with that song since it was fucking ALL OVER THE PLACE. (Of course Ryan "Mr Radio" Seacrest knew it.) It was the perfect song for him to do, especially now. Outfit worked, and he sang enough to remind you that his voice has a nice tone. Let's go Blake!
  2. Sanjaya actually was not bad singing "Waiting on the World to Change," but this may be because the bar has been set so low. I'm not sure, given the "gee it wasn't so bad" reaction of the judges that he'll survive. If Simon had hated on him, he would have been a shoe-in.
  3. Sundance sang "Jeremy" and it was really really bland; Simon was totally right. Also, [livejournal.com profile] bhanesidhe died a little inside, and her wife did an impression of Eddie having a stroke—I mean, why did they give AI the rights? Do we really want people singing "Daughter" on Idol?
  4. Chris Richardson sings Keith Urban's "Tonight I Wanna Cry" and, well, it should have been a little better than it was, but it was quite good the way that he made the song his own.
  5. Jared sings "If You Really Love Me" and OMG I wish he weren't so boring. He's sort of cute, he sort of sells the song, he's sort of interesting, but the preppy clothes really have got to go. He might be on the bubble this week just because he isn't that interesting.
  6. Brandon plays piano cutely, sings "I Just Wanna Celebrate" (which, let's face it, I'll always associate with Nate Fisher). I'm just glad that he finally fucking put it out there. And hey, at least he out-sang the back up singers. But I'm glad that Simon said he was nervous, because hopefully that will get folks to vote for him. (The implication that Ryan was suggesting Brandon sleep with him? HI-larious!)
  7. Phil sings "I Need You" (by LeAnn Rimes) and the start was really pretty lousy though he was okay at the end. And the hat totally didn't work.
  8. Chris Sligh sings "We All Wanna Be Loved" and sounded great. I'm glad he'll be moving into the finals because choosing these songs that no one knows isn't going to work.

And now I go vote for Brandon a pile of times, and then also Chris S, Chris R and Blake.

Thursday night we'll have the first poll of the year, after we get the results, and then it's FINALS!

The boys sang?
Cuz they were totally forgotten about in the midst of Seacrest awesomeness.
I love that boy so much, it's crazy.

Ones to go home on Thurs: Jared and Brandon
Not that they really sucked, but the other 6 aren't going anywhere.

First, we screamed for the stubble and he gave us the stubble.

Second, those were some good jeans. Yes they were.

Third, he really managed to control Simon's pissyness pretty well and even got him laughing a couple of times. Someone owes someone else dinner.

Fourth, those boys were with the yawn city. I just voted 12 times for Brandon but I still fear he will be going home and it fills me with woe. WOE I SAY!!

Yes, Ryan was on fire tonight. I swear everytime he went to read off numbers, I heard Simon laughing in the background.

And I heartily agree to his choice of jeans. Mmhmm.

And I'm sorry about Brandon. But it's his own fault for not being leprechaun or shy gay boyish enough!

I was extremely underwhelmed with the show tonight. Also, I'm with [livejournal.com profile] bhanesidhe and the missus. I think AI actually broke me. :((

Joe R at TWoP declared that "Jeremy" "had no business getting dragged onto this show" and I quite agree. Wrong, and doubly wrong because you know Sundance is going to get into the finals because of it.

It's going to be a year of boys sucking and girls being awesome, like three years ago when Fantasia won which started the whole gender segregated semis in the first place.

Let the old man judge, let the young man interview.

Was this the comment Ryan made after Simon made fun of his hair? I was playing with Monkey at the time and couldn't pay 100% attention.

top 12 were Blake, Chris R, Chris S, and probably Phil.

Yes, yes, yes, and I think they like Sundance better than Phil.

It was when he was asking Chris R about losing weight.

I guess they do like Sundance which is probably why Simon said "and a half." I don't think I'm going to be a Phil fan. I don't dislike him but I don't really care about him.

It was really weird that none of the judges recognized the 311 song; I mean, I couldn't place the group because I always suck at such things, but I certainly recognized it, and I'm not the one in the industry! They really dated their own interests.

Lots of boring tonight, aside from a few, and that's sad. But the girls are tomorrow!
