Will this be the week that the white girls inspire me? Telling quote of the night:
Randy: I wish I could sing like Celine too, but I can't.
Two weird ads we got here in NYC. One was William Hung singing something unintelligible for Hollywood Tans. The other is a local one about how if you smoke around your kids it's like they are smoking, a point they get across by having these kids talk as though they smoke: "I have my first one when I get up in the morning" etc. But the one bit that is sort of funny is when this totally cute little girl turns to the camera and says in a tiny voice, "I'm down to a pack a day."

- Gina sings "Alone" which Carrie rather infamously sang last year (and also sang along with Heart in a TV concert). She has a bad habit of going flat as she trails off her notes, which someone will have to break her of. Simon clearly likes her, as he's giving her Level 2 advice now.
- Alaina sings "I'm Not Ready to Make Nice" in a bizarrely sexy way, though it's actually a song about anger. I'm not sure what to do with that. She couldn't really stay on top of the song. And she should be singing pop or something, seriously.
- I liked that LaKisha was a little bit softer tonight on "Midnight Train to Georgia" but they are right that she needs to lose the nerves. And Simon is in love with her, clearly, and again, is giving her that Level 2 advice.
- I am voting for Melinda 37 times, for reals. Her rendition of "My Funny Valentine" was like, I mean, I want the mp3 of that right now. It was amazing.
- Antonella, what the hell was that? Bad song ("Because You Loved Me"), bad performance, bad dress. Also a bad arrangement, which didn't help. When even Randy focusses on your look, you know you're in trouble.
- Jordin, I love that they can see your potential, and see beyond a sort of okay rendition of "Reflection."
- Wow, Simon liked Stephanie's rendition of "Dangerously in Love" better than Randy did. When does that happen? I loved her even though I really don't like that song all that much.
- Leslie . . . sings the same song AJ sang last night, "I'm Feeling Good." You'd think they'd keep them from doing that. She doesn't sound as good as AJ did, and he wasn't great. She is no longer in the running to be my favorite white girl. I'm sad, because she's pretty adorable.
- Haley is so fucking boring, and if one is boring, one should not be singing a Whitney song from the Bodyguard soundtrack. (No, not THAT one.)
- Sabrina also sings a Whitney song and you know, it's fine, but I'm with Simon. I liked her better last week but she'll be back next week.

Date: 2007-03-01 04:29 am (UTC)I like LaKisha, but love that her grandmother is in love with Ryan.
And Jordin's adorable, especially squating down for Ryan's height. Cuz the boy is so tiny next to her.
Once again, Simon and crew were making me laugh til I cried.
"I'd call it a dusky gray." Or imitating Paula's babble.
The ones to leave: Haley and Antonella
And it isn't enough that they suck, but have attitudes getting judged on the suckiness.

Date: 2007-03-02 01:08 pm (UTC)I feel that Ryan really appeals to grandmothers. He has that sort of way about him. I'm just glad that Jordin is confident enough to tease Ryan about his height after his momentary lapse of tact last week.

Date: 2007-03-01 04:52 am (UTC)I saw that smoking PSA today for the first time. And it made me think of my childhood and when my parents chain smoked and I had asthma and they used to send me to the corner store for cigarettes at age 5.

Date: 2007-03-02 01:10 pm (UTC)Yeah, my mother smoked until I was 17, and then had abdominal surgery, and then just never wanted to smoke again, after almost 40 years of smoking.
I am really looking forward to Melinda singing this year.

Date: 2007-03-02 05:21 pm (UTC)It was actually a pack of Virgina Slims and a pack of Marlboros. I called them Marble-er-os til I was 8. In the seventies no one seems to mind a kid buying cigarettes.
My mom quit when she was pregant with my little brother. He is turning 25 this year. She however is not around. Breast cancer.
My dad quit smoking 9 years ago. Then he had bypass surgery. He smoked a small cigar in Portugal a few years back but that has been it. We're frankly amazed that he has made it to 62 and that my mom didn't. So strange. I'm grateful to have him around though!

Date: 2007-03-01 05:36 am (UTC)Worst: Antonella, of course, and my sister raised the question of why, after getting told that Aerosmith was too big for her last week, would she choose Celine? Wha?
