Was that song they played at the very end a Chris Daughtry song? I just want to point out that American Idol 5's play-off song of "Had a Bad Day" was the #1 song of 2006, so if they stay with it, it will certainly get a huge bump. It was fun to see Fantasia and I think she's perfect to be Celie in Broadway's Color Purple. Bummer for Q that he got totally cut off by Ryan. Speaking of Our Host, why is he suddenly signing off with "I've been Ryan Seacrest"? Is he saying that off the air he will stop being Ryan Seacrest?

We have our celebrities for the theme nights this year and we are nearly full, given that there are 11 shows and the last two don't have themes. I'm mostly just glad that Michael Jackson rumor was false. [Poll #933331]

Friends of this LJ know that I have a soft spot for the silly group songs on results night. I do sort of like "Sowing the Seeds of Love" even though it's really a ridiculous song with an interesting chorus but truly clunky verses. The Fantastic Five Colored Girls (StephanieJordinMelindaSabrinaLakisha) plus, mysteriously, Amy, got little wailing mini-solos; I would have put Gina as the honorary Colored Girl. Eight boys split up the two verses: Phil-Rudy-Sundance-Blake and Brandon-Paul-ChrisS-AJ. They seemed to be putting Brandon at the middle of the stage a lot, too, and he's becoming a favorite of mine. But I'm not sure how they chose some of these other boys.

So I don't think anyone is going to be crying over Amy, Nicole, Paul or Rudy. I mean, I like a Cute Asian Guy but Paul really didn't sing well and Rudy, Amy and Nicole were totally boring. I'm really hoping those top six girls are the Fantastic Five plus Gina, and as for the boys I'm really only pulling for Brandon, Chris S, and Blake, plus Jared (mostly because he's cute) and kind of Phil. I see some text voting in store next week as I will be pretty annoyed if any of those boring white girls are in the finals except maybe Leslie, who is adorable.

Since there is no tv in our lounge (wtf. right?! what is THAT about) I have just streamlined all the episodes from this week. You are one hundred per cent right about everything--but then, I am of course not surprised.

Meanwhile: oh man what WAS that sweetheart thing with Ryan?! Oh man!

Whenever Simon can be condescending and affectionate at the same time, he's a happy happy man. Which I think is what made Ryan so mad, never mind that he's always jumpy on boy night.

Tonight was boring for me.
I mean, I always love a cheesy group singalong and Fantasia was good.
But other than that, blah. I wasn't surprised by anyone leaving.
Though, I thought it was a weird process to go through the entire top row of girls and then to randomly call Amy up to tell her she's gone.

Results night is always boring, especially with four leaving, and the endless recapping, so I never watch results live. I thought that was weird, too, but I think it was because they wanted to not totally telegraph who was leaving until the moment they were leaving. But as soon as he called Amy up by herself everyone knew what he was going to say, so it felt just slightly meaner.

But yeah, no surprises.

I liked it last year when he called up Heather and whats-her-face at the same time, and immediately told whats-her-face to sit back down and said "Heather, you're going home."

I prefer Ryan's more shocking/meaner announcements to the results.
Of course, then he gets the backlash the next day.

We can only hope.

Sorry, had to do it. ;)

Poor Ryan. I just want to give him a hug and tell him to relax already.

Oh and...

.... Ryan has a schedule to keep. Anyone who knows old enough to remember anything about Quincy Jones knows that he will ramble on forever and a day. I would have cut him off too!

Ryan is actually incredibly good as his job, which is making sure the show keeps moving and ends at something like on time. He has to shepherd 24 contestants and manage 3 unpredictable judges and do it all without looking too much like an arse and much of the time, he manages it. So it's not bad on Ryan that he cut Q off; just, bummer for Q. A producer should have told him that they wouldn't have time for him to yammer merrily away.
