Let's have a real old fashioned noisy Fourth of July

I'm at a friend's place, sipping a beer and waiting for burgers and fireworks. I am actually wearing dark red capris, a dark blue tank top, a white short-sleeved shirt, and a necklace with little stars on it. I decided this morning that I was going to go ahead and be as patriotic as I wanna be because being patriotic isn't about agreeing with everything my government does, and I'll be damned if I'll let other people define what is patriotic. After all, what is more patriotic than working to make your country better? I'll also be damned, frankly, if I'll let them make me ashamed to be an American.

J and I were in the car after the movie, listening to the news and suddenly Dubya started babbling about something, so J and I immediately reached for the OFF button at the same time. "The last thing I want to do," I said, "is to listen to the President of the United States on Independence Day."

Kinda sad, that.

Having a Shuttle launch today, however, made me proud to be an American. Now THAT was some fireworks!

Cheers to you. I wore a white kickboxing helmet with two American flags sticking out of the top as I drove my beetle with stars and stripes all over it. I'll post a pic in the morrow. For the record, I love my country and I think our president is the least patriotic person in it. I still hope for the day we have a president like in "24" (seasons 1-3) or in "Independence Day".

On my way to the subway I saw a girl with Candies-like wooden sandals and the fabric band over her instep was a flag. I thought, wow, you know, you can only really wear those on the 4th and like, Memorial Day and that's kinda it. Maybe Flag Day.
