So I went out to Pasadena to see a good friend from college who is now a poet and a writer. (If you would like a book of very good poetry about a woman's coming out process, drop me a line.)

So I had said to her very vaguely that I have been writing, though I didn't say too much about it because I felt rather shy about it in the face of a Poet, etc. etc. So we're at lunch and she says that she thinks, for the time being, that she is giving up poetry and writing middle-grade novels (that is, novels for children in middle grades). !

She has a young son, and they've been reading some stories (he's only seven, so she thinks he's not ready for HP though his grandad is reading it to him now). She pulled out the Hornbook (sound familiar to you, Emily?) which is a journal about children's writing, so I said something to her about Emily's thesis (which she was very interested in). Before I knew it, we were talking about R/Hr vs. H/Hr in canon. Think my worlds are colliding? Wait.

So she knows I'm writing with gay characters, and says, "Have you heard of slash?" and goes on to talk about a friend of hers who is writing slash (TV stuff, can't remember what) so I come out with, okay, my story is HP slash, etc. etc. After lunch, I give her the urls to this journal (waves to J) and to EWFS. She sends me an email telling me I should write a novel. !

Sign of Clio taking herself that much more seriously. Must rely on you all to keep me from getting out of hand.

Oh, the other HP connection: my friend's gf is involved in the post-production of CoS! I had forgotten she had worked on PS/SS. So she's in England, sadly away from J but we can be selfishly happy that CoS moves along apace. Huzah! (However, as it is post-production, I have no insights into the Bad Place. Le sigh.)

would you like an emicon with that?

First of all, it is sooo cool that people are actually interested in that thesis. I feel like I am contributing something to the world. :P

Second of all: write a book! I concur. :)

Third of all: your friend who works post production on CoS - can you wrangle premiere tickets? :D

EWFS is a novel. At least, for me as a reader it has all the pleasures of one.

But I assume she means, a novel with your own original characters, that you can send into the world more widely. I concur, I mean, I also think you should write one! It'll rock!

Ah, but you see, I'm all for you taking yourself seriously as a writer. Hell, if I can occasionally manage it you should *always*!

*hugs* to the self-abasing Clio.

Well, I'm glad to see you're home safe, and that you're corrupting your friends. Wouldn't expect anything less ^_^.

Hmph...
Also jealous of the whole driving on your own thingy. Very cool indeed... Cali's good for that. NY, not so much.
