I could have written this entire entry in questions. Why was Ryan on the floor? Why was Simon in such a bad mood? Wasn't Paula's hair great? Our theme tonight: one song from the year you were born, and one song from this week's chart.

1. Elliott
   • "On Broadway"(1978). I really love this song, and I really love Elliott, so I'm not seeing this one clearly because I just turned up the stereo and grooved out to it, to be honest.
     
   • "Home." Michael Buble? For Elliott? I'm not sure about the karma of this song; should you be singing that you want to go home? Gorgeous but kinda boring, which makes me worry, too, Simon.
   
   
2. Paris
   • "Kiss"(1988). She had fun, she sounded fine, but it was kind of whatever.
     
   • "Be Without You" Good call on the Mary J even if it was risky. Now everyone knows how you might sound on the radio as a young person.
   
   
3. Chris
   • "Renegade"(1979). It's been a long time since the rock and roll, hasn't it? So Chris reminded us why he'll probably be in the finals.
     
   • "I Dare You." Do we care about Shine Down? Do we really want him making crappy boring rock like this? Do we hope against hope that he'll be less like Creed and more like Live (at least)? But did he sound good anyway? That would be no, no, yes and yes except for the screaming which didn't really work.
   
   
4. Katharine
   • "Against All Odds"(1984). It was a mess. And I didn't like the dress, either.
     
   • "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree." I really love this KT Tunstall song and we all know Katharine will be all about them AC charts. It was funky and cute and I liked the floor work.
   
   
5. Taylor
   • "Play That Funky Music"(1976). So it was only a matter of time before he sang this one, too. I feel like all of his choices are Chronicles of a Song Foretold. This may be why I find him so fucking boring. Horrible shirt. I love how Simon just doesn't get him at all. I'm also taking best on when he pulls out the "Ya Mo B There".
     
   • "Something." Okay, first? I vaguely feel like he cheated by going to the catalog chart, or better, that he can't seem to find a place for himself in the modern sound. Second, this is a deceptively hard song to sing; George's voice is so thin and light that if you push it will sound like crap. (Ask Frank Sinatra; it was his favorite love song and he did an atrocious cover.) I'm just so over all his bullshit.

That guy from UNAN1MOUS who said that "it's reduced good people to dogs fighting over a piece of meat"? That's why I never watched the show, my friend. I fear three weeks of bloated hour-long results shows in our future. But House was really good wasn't it?

If Taylor is 29, I'm 15. It's not the hair either. He just doesn't look a day under 40! And that's fine... I guess. I'm just weirded out because he's so out there. But like Simon said, it's easy to forget he does have a nice voice.

There's a picture floating around someplace of him with black hair and a beard and he looks super young. I don't know that he looks 40, as he's remarkably wrinkle free, but 30s doesn't seem out of the question. That said, since there's an upper age limit on Idol I doubt he's lying about his age because you know that would have come out on Smoking Gun or something by now.

I'm sad, because I'm not sure Elliott will survive Elvis.

Yeah, I'm sure Taylor isn't lying, the truth would eventually get out. I think it's more about his personality than his looks. I'm just being really shallow and ridiculous about the whole thing.

Well, you know that Chris will do the early rock or the comeback special stuff, and if we're lucky we'll get some head to toe leather out of him.

Kat will do love songs and maybe a spiritual, or the more country-rock stuff.

Taylor will do his dumb Taylor thing with who cares what because the people love him and he'll be find and get votes.

Elliott, though, I have no idea. Maybe stuff like In the Ghetto? I don't even know.
