A Disclaimer
Jan. 16th, 2006 05:05 pmThis is my punishment for checking LJ when I should be working on my prospectus.
I just want to make very clear that I do not feel that I am in any position to dictate what sort of fanfiction people should or should not write, or the degree to which they do any investigation on what they are writing. I often use the phrase "perhaps you should not" and that phrase is meant to indicate cause and effect and not any sort of royal decree on my part. An example: If you don't like public transportation, then perhaps you should not sell your car. I don't care whether you sell your car or not, but I'm not interested in listening to you bitch about the subway if you do. I like that phrase and would rather not have to give it up as I find it illustrative but if it's going to cause all this trouble then I will cease to use it.
However, I will say that it baffles me that people want to write about things that they don't seem to have an actual interest in. That confuses me as I thought it was interest in canon or the characters therein that made people want to write fanfiction, but it appears that I have been mistaken.
And now I go back to work.
ETA: Jo, who loves you baby? However, comments are off as I didn't mean for this to be wanky, either; I was just trying to say, no, I am not trying to tell anyone what to write.
