The week in review, complete with media
Sep. 23rd, 2005 01:37 pmI didn't mean to not post for over a week. I've been here, reading LJ, reading my class work and such. I guess I didn't think I had anything to say. Been busy, though.
And now some spoilerific musings on Proof and the CSI season premiere.
Both Val and I saw Proof on Broadway and loved it. The movie, of course, expands on some things: we see the party after the funeral, and Hal's geek band, and Catherine when she was at school briefly, and a little more of Claire. Unfortunately, this comes at the expense of Catherine's interactions with her father, which of course are not expanded. Because of this the pacing and the balance are a bit disturbed. In the play the primary relationship was really that of Cath and Robert, but the movie pulls her interactions with Claire and Hal almost to that level. And there's a whole thing in an airport that makes the ending yes, more filmic, but also more dramatic in a way I'm not sure we needed.
All that said, if you loved the play you must see the movie. And if you never saw the play, you must see the movie.
Ooh, new credits. I'll take this by character or I'll be here all day. My general statement: now that the team is back together, we're back to the early 5th season stuff of 3-4 cases per episode which really, I don't have a problem with. I think they've got a bit better at having them begin and end in big overlapping patterns.
My love for David-the-assistant-coroner grows and grows, as does my love for Archie because he is so hot. (No, I mean that. Hot liek woah.) And with his new secret mission, yay more Archie. Personally, I want as much Archie as there is Hodges and David. Also, more Mia.
Sophia is a detective? Random. I still can't completely tell if the show wants us to get a Gil/Sophia vibe but I personally am not seeing it. More of a friendship there, but without the drama of the Gil/Cath friendship. Good to have a female detective; I don't think we've seen one since the lady Nick dated back in the first season.
Greg: "Grissom would have tasted it on purpose." I miss the old hair, but I love his vibe with Sara. I also enjoy that Greg's extensive social life continues to give him leads.
Sara seems to be more sane, which is a relief. I think she needed to get a little crazy, as she was wound SO tight, but nice to see her come out the other side (and please, leave Gil behind, as he was never much more than a jerk to her).
Warrick, married? OMG! Well, now that whole long story about Tina and the almost-fight at the casino at the beginning of Grave Danger (so Tarantino-like, really) makes sense. And his reaction, the whole "life is short" thing, totally consistent with his behavior during Grave Danger.
Cath totally broke my heart during her conversation with Warrick, and before that with her not wanting to have the conversation. I love her reading glasses. I hope they find her a man that doesn't ultimately let her down. No, she doesn't need one, but she deserves one, and she clearly wants one.
Gil, where did you get that straw hat, a drunken weekend in TJ? Speaking of hats, oh, my love of Gil wearing his cap backwards. Ooh, secret investigation with Archie, and wanting to keep Nick out of that. Also I predict dozens of "I'm not a pervert" icons.
Nicky, oh Nicky, and your bug freakout and vague jumpiness and you're trying so hard to hide it. And how well you work with Gil, standing in each other's personal space. Gah, I'm almost never one to look for shippiness in canon but wow. (And, of course, your belief in getting a wife that's a good cook. Poor Nick, a traditional guy in a nontraditional place and time . . .)
- Went out to dinner with
ali_wildgoose and
bowdlerized, which was awesome. Hot dogs and milkshakes on St Mark's Place—who wouldn't want that? - Went to
calloocallay's fabu birthday brunch; saw many, was seen by many, good time was had. - Saw Proof with
bhanesidhe yesterday. More on the film below, but spending an entire day from lunch to evening with Val (yes, you read that right, out and about in the sunshine) was incredibly awesome.
