At some point this weekend, depending on plans with others, I will be done with this CSI odyssey, having seen all of the first four seasons. Given that I start classes on Monday, this is probably best in terms of how I spend my time. The last eight weeks have been a period of great change and uncertainty; maybe this was the distraction I needed then but don't any longer. (Well, until the season 5 DVD comes out on November 5; I have a sense I'll be orgying again over Thanksgiving.)

Orientation was yesterday but it was mainly a lot of information without any context, which was confusing, so after the speeches and the first little break out I grabbed all the literature and skipped out. The one for my department isn't until the 1st or something anyway.

Very cool here. Am tidying and running the dishwasher. Also, apparently I am a nerd, not a geek or a dork.

Make a list of all the characters in your icons. (Although you may have more than one icon of a single character, they only go on the list once.) Alphabetize it. Take the first two people on the list; that's your first pairing. Second two people; second pairing. Etc.

So I went back and forth about including the old movie characters, but in the end I did.

Well, Angel would certainly bring some color into CC's drab life, but I'm feeling CC would be more freaked out than anything else.

As my friend S would say, we all know David likes the dark meat. But I think after the sex it would just settle into friendship.

Draco Malfoy (Harry Potter) + Ellie Andrews (It Happened One Night)
Oh, Ellie would drop him flat. Please.

Fran Kubelik (The Apartment) + Gil Grissom (CSI)
It would be nice to think that Ms Kubelik would be able to save Gil from himself, but I think he would be too resistant.

Ginny Weasley + Harry Potter (Harry Potter)
Canon. I have nothing to add.

Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) + Jan (Grease)
weatherby is amused by this. I don't think Hermione would be pleased by Jan's sweet tooth and general giggliness, and Jan would be like, Hermione, you need to loosen the fuck up.

Joanna Drayton + John Prentiss (Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?)
Again, canon. Huh.

Keith Charles (Six Feet Under) + Keith Mars (Veronica Mars)
Two hot bald former cops. Bring it on!

Kyo Sohma (Fruits Basket) + Nick Charles (The Thin Man)
Nick Stokes (CSI) + Nora Charles (The Thin Man)
So, I would rather that Nick and Nora were reversed, as Kyo and Nick Charles really doesn't lead me anyplace and Nick Stokes would be completely flummoxed by Nora and she bored by him. However, Nora would love Kyo and all of his crazy anger, and Nick and Nick could run around in some kind of power detective duo and Nick Charles would teach Nick Stokes how to shake a martini in waltz time.

Padma Patil (Harry Potter) + Peter Warne (It Happened One Night)
Could Peter do the same for Padma that he did for Ellie? Would Padma run away with him? It's possible . . .

Ron Weasley + Seamus Finnigan (Harry Potter)
I actually don't find this pairing to be all that interesting but hey, plausible.

Tom Collins (Rent)
I want to note that in the sans-old-movie version, Tom Collins ends up with Seamus which seems entirely appropriate. This, though, is sort of canon, though I plan on doing something about that. ^_~
