And an eventful day it was! Woke up later than usual mostly because I'm still on LA time. Had a biscuit (that is, a southern, American-style biscuit; I'm not being Brit here) with cheddar for breakfast. Showered and finally tackled the complete rats nest that the Boxter had made of my hair. We packed the car and after a couple of stops for car food and chai, we were off to Austin.
Only, the completely excellent BBQ place we were headed to for a late lunch wasn't quite the halfway point Carrie thought it was. This resulted in a number of bathroom adventures with the children . . . which are best left told by Mom, really. However, the brisket and the sausage and the sauce and the beans and the potato salad and the eating with your hands was really worth it, even though it did suddenly decide to pour BUCKETS right when we were leaving.
Then we scared ourselves thinking the intermittent refinery smell was coming from our car, and once we actually got to Austin we could NOT find the hotel, and once we got here our room was totally not clean and we had to wait in another one. But once things finally got sorted, and after a necessary pause, we went to an awesome store and grabbed some salads. Now Carrie is putting the wee ones to bed and I'm making a quick check of email in the lobby before joining her for some sauvignon blanc. Yeah, it's been a really good day, actually.
Although I will say, there's a family reunion going on and Grandma, Jesus H Christ on a popsicle stick, put that poor six year old girl to bed already. You can visit tomorrow. GAH!
PS--Am I the only one watching Kept? GO SETH!!!!! I'm rooting for him next week I tell you what.
