I write romance fics, of many ratings. I read lots of different fics, but mostly romance. If you don't see something you want to read, write it. If your favorite fics don't get enough attention, pimp them. Write what you want, because you like it. Read what you want, because you like it. If your friend doesn't like what you like, they actually can still be your friend. And . . . that's all I have to say about that.

In other news, the countdown continues for my departure from my current job/career to six fun-filled liminal weeks and thence to higher education. I'm excited; I'm a pile of nerves; I can't wait; I wish I had more time. Transitioning hasn't started yet, and I still have miles to go before I depart, so work has been encroaching.

In the meantime, I have put Spike on my "favorite channels" so I can watch CSI, which is making prime access fun again. Nicky, so hot. However, watching Pulp Fiction with all the swears taken out is a seriously surreal experience.

Meanwhile I am eating a plum, cold from the fridge, and thinking about William Carlos Williams.

Surely I'm not the only person who composes an LJ comment backwards? :))

I don't write. I don't LIKE to write. Yeah, my post from the other day was me bitching, but it's not that I dislike any one particular fic so much as I am geniunely curious as to why a certain type of fic isn't really recced as much anymore. And I just get tired of seeing the same thing over and over. The solution for me is not to just "write it" cause I don't write. But I'm sure someone has, so I'm looking for it.

But I agree with your idea that you should write what you want. Just cause I (or random John and Jane Doe) don't like X type of fic certainly doesn't preclude anyone from writing what they are comfortable with, nor does it mean that every single fic of that certain "disliked" type is automatically shit to me (or whomever). There's an audience for just about everything under the sun.

You mean, the "where is the het?" entry? I didn't really think you were bitching all that much. I think LJ is just tipped to slash as a general rule.

I know, I have a tendency to think of fandom as a DIY space, a "let's put on a show in Judge Hardy's barn!" sort of thing. So I do understand not everyone is writing. It's just, when folks start talking about plot, and PWP, I get really defensive. I don't feel like the line, if there need be a line, between PWP, smut that may have something going on, and romance, is drawn very clearly. I also tend to presume that when people say, "Plot", they really only mean action/adventure plots. So since by that measure I've never written a single thing with a plot—EWFS being a very long R rated PWP.

But really? I think it ends up being more about how I'm not one of those people who talks about my work.

Thanks, re grad school! I really appreciate that!
