So discussing LunaCon with both [livejournal.com profile] blackholly and [livejournal.com profile] bhanesidhe got me thinking: what would the Con of Clio be? Come along, won't you?

Location: Some random old shambles of an old fashioned hotel in the wilds of southern Maine.

Friday
Arrival

Dinner and singing in main room: pizza, beer, Italian sandwiches, strawberry shortcake, and Karaoke featuring 70s am hits.

In the screening room, all con long: A loop of alternating John Hughes and Preston Sturges films

Saturday
Breakfast: Several varieties of silver dollar pancakes with appropriate accoutrement.

First Morning Panel: It's all about the B Story: Love and the Secondary Character
Special attention paid to Nick Carroway, Mervyn Bunter, Liz Imbrie and Seamus Finnigan

Second Morning Panel: Neil Finn, God
[livejournal.com profile] heidi8 (M), RL friend S, Eddie Vedder, Sheryl Crow

Lunch: Drive classic convertibles to a picnic on the grounds, with fried chicken, potato salad, veggie sticks, and raspberry rhubarb pie

Afternoon: Napping in the sun, swimming in the pool

Teatime Panel: Clio, why she so hot?
[livejournal.com profile] calloocallay (M), Roger Taylor of Duran Duran, Michael J. Fox, Margaret Cho, Bruce Willis, John Cusack, and that guy from chem lab in high school.

Evening: Formal dinner party, with assigned seating, vast amounts of weirdly specific flatware, and seven or ten courses

Night: Costume ball with dancing on the veranda. Fox trots and waltzes. Theme: Romantic comedies, films noir and romances of the 1930s-1950s.

Sunday
Brunch: Eggs benedict. Very large bloody marys and mimosas available.

John Cusack (M), [livejournal.com profile] calloocallay, RL Friends C and D

Afternoon: Live reading of Busman's Honeymoon (play) on the lawn

Teatime Panel: Stop the insanity! Or at least the bad sex writing!
Anais Nin (M), [livejournal.com profile] blackholly, Julia Quinn, Henry Miller
Special to Anne Rice: If you make a fuss you will be ejected.

Dinner: Foraging for leftovers in the fridge.

Departure.

Well? So what would your con be?

Oh yes please. But what's up with the lack of fondue & cheese?

From: [identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com
Cheese is CC's bag, not mine. I reckon at CassieCon there will be nothing but cheese, and sushi, and bubble tea.

I'll let the bubble tea slide and come anyway if she makes it All You Can Eat Sushi.

What do the (M)'s mean next to certain names? Master for that panel?

Ultimate mix cds and how to make them

I still have the treasure trove (and notes) you sent me. :D

Yeah, moderator—that was how Holly's post about Lunacon designated it.

(yay!)

That is BRILLIANT.

What a lovely idea!

(Now, if only we could get to organizing this. ;) )

I say we outsource it. I'd like to be the client for a change. "Oh, yeah, I changed my mind. Can you get me something entirely new by first thing tomorrow morning? Thanks!"

God, now I'm all stressed that there is, like, some secret way to make mix CDs and I will fail and be substandard when I am called upon to do so. Do you have a primer up somewhere?

Because you know what I need this week? I need some random stuff to stress about that ISN'T meeting yet another deadline for work.

But also - count me in for ClioCon. I will even not bitch about separate registration fees for each cool panel.

Is that how I'll make money on this thing? Because I could use a summer revenue stream.

I vote yes. So far, I am spending more on the optional events for TWH than I am for the basic registration.

Actually, that'd be perfect. You set up ClioCon, we'll all come and pad your pockets and you can cook for us. Works for me.

I'm really yearning to have a house party on a holiday weekend this summer. I just love them, so much cooking and laying around playing board games and going for car rides. I want to have a house like that someday where people come and stay for a week and we just mostly sit around. I want to be that sort of hostess. There's a Donald Fagen song where he says, "We'll move up to Manhattan and fill the place with friends" and that was always how I envisioned my adult life.

You cannot help but succeed. There is a reason you were called to duty. Besides, you have all spring and summer to build up a head of steam about this since everything's taken til September.

You could also stress about the effect of gamma rays on man-in-the-moon marigolds, or will the wolf survive, or how soon is now.

Yeah, speaking of, will you go ahead and put me down for October? :)) I don't think I'll be able to pull off September b/c the beginning of the school year next year promises to be especially chaotic. And that way I can also just hand-deliver some of them to TWH. :D

I choose 'how soon is now'. *panics* Actually, that's a bit too relevant for my tastes because...gah. Did you see where a certain flist-member who was having work woes yesterday thought that it was too late for him to go to grad school? :)) This would be me, feeling about 3 cms tall.

From: [identity profile] jlh.livejournal.com
Rene and Ebony better decide soon, as they are left with no choices thanks to all of you! And hey, Heidi wanted September anyway.

I did not see that! *checks your flist* And what do you mean, 3cms tall?

I warn you that I would almost definately crash the "Clio! SO HOT" panel to distribute informative leaflets (complete with diagrams: "Here we see the fabulous hair. Here, the lucious bootay.") and serve martinis to the panel and guest of honor.

Crash? Why would you have to crash? Note that Em says she will be emphasizing my brain and asking people not to get hung up on eyes and hair.

I would expect nothing less. I want you to be a generally corrupting influence. It will contrast with your angelic appearance.
