What Flavor of Windsock Am I?

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] fick_l_rene, I heart thou.
Oh, [livejournal.com profile] blackholly and [livejournal.com profile] theoblack, why didn't you tell me?
Oh Project Runway, what will I do without you?

So not only is Wendy like, a total manipulative bitch, but she also has no internal design sense whatsoever. Note that the challenges she won were the most proscriptive ones, and really the ones that were most like the sort of clothes she's used to making. Her "collection" had no unity other than being in autumn colors, and so much of it was downright ugly. Michael Kors was so right about that transparent shirt; it was horrid. The pink leather jacket? That orange suit that made Martinique's shoulders look 4' across? What the hell was that about? Just, not up to snuff. You had no business being there, Wendy, and I hope you realize this.

Kara, wow. I really thought her clothes would be better than that. I haven't been an emotional fan, though I have admired the way she's carried herself throughout, but she has made some beautiful clothes. Here, however, I think the Aviator influence took her down a really odd road. To my eye, it wasn't that wearable. The furs looked odd. It was just like a magi-mixed 30s thing but without the beauty or style of the original. The girls couldn't walk in the dresses, and after all that drama about the shoes who saw them? I was concerned when they were throwing a lot of softball questions her way, but then the crit came out. I think that ironically the challenges played to her strengths of working to a brief, but given free reign, her look was costumey. Shades of Austin there, I thought.

But Jay! Where Kara disappointed me, Jay wowed me. I wanted to wear so many of those skirts! That blue poncho! It was fun, irreverent, it had a point of view but it was so wearable! Lovely, lovely, lovely and just spot on for what was needed. The lovely quilting on the skirts and the jackets, the fun accessories. It was so young, and fresh, and lovely. If I'm not that girl, I'd like to think I'm that girl. I would aspire to her life, and isn't that what high fashion is about? I want to be that girl so I'll dress like her? And Jay really was the one who played around the least, who went from the guy who didn't care much to the one who wanted to win! And when he did, and they said, what will you do now he said, "I'm going to get a cigarette"! Which only made us love him more.

Auf Wiedersehen!

HAHA! After the show the GBF called and admitted Jay was THE BEST. And I also got him to admit that Jay's personality had "grown on him". That means TWO WINS for JAY!!!

Tell you what? *wibble*

But I totally agree. I have to say, coming late to Project Runway, I was sort of hoping that Wendy would be better. I was hoping that she wasn't evil, just misunderstood. But, well, whatever she was, the clothes completely lacked cohesion.

I so agree about Kara. Everyone was always talking about how great she was and how she was going to win that I was underwhelmed by her collection. It was weird that she was so inspired by The Aviator--her whole collection came out weirdly retro and costume-y.

Agree about Jay too. He ruled.

I didn't know you were watching Project Runway until Josh mentioned last night that you and Theo had run home from his place to see the finale.

I started watching it about week 4, though I have gone back and seen the others. I disliked Wendy mostly because she was treating it like it was Survivor, rather than being anything about talent. All of her designs going through were very safe. I was initially inclined to root for her because she didn't have formal training and was older and all of that, but she just so willingly became the Richard of the group, and she just didn't have the talent to back it up. I was turned off much less by her actual behaviour on camera and more by what she would say during the interviews. She just became such a shark, when it wasn't a game--it was a competition. I don't think she realized that.
