I could write some long thing about slash and het and smut and the m-word and all of that, but I'd rather just leave it implied by this request:

I'm looking for smut that contains a female character who is active in her sexuality without having to resort to restraining her partner. I know it's out there, as I've read some of it. I'd like to read more. HP only please, as I don't read fic in anything else. Femmeslash or het matters not, though I have found it's sadly more rare in het.

So, got anything for me?

ETA: By active, I mean, actively involved in her sexuality. You know, like, "Whee! Sex!" or "Yeah, baby! Let's go!" What I meant by restraints is that I didn't necessarily mean power games. Just, you know, active. Thanks!

I've only just celebrated the first anniversary of my fandom delurking, so let me ask: Is there some rule that says that fandom has to have this conversation at least quarterly? And if so, aren't we clever to get it out of the way early, leaving the early spring clear for more important business like shipping wars.

Well, this is the thing:

FACT: There is more boyslash than femslash in HP.

FACT: There is more boyslash smut than het smut in HP.

FACT: When they tried to have a slashers do het smut challenge when RS.org opened, there were a number of fics that featured a gay boy sleeping with a girl when he'd rather be sleeping with some boy.

FACT: If you are a slasher, you get to say, EW HET and I HATE ALL THE FEMALE CHARACTERS IN HP, but if you are a het fan you cannot say EW SLASH or people call you a homophobe.

This gets the het folks cranky as the slashers look like some fun exclusive club that think they are too cool for het, and so the het folks try to get back at them. It's their own fault, really, because they do like to think of themselves as outré and the het folks as squares. No one likes to be called a square just because they like Hermione.

Which really, is so high school. It's boring. I don't find anything more outré about Harry/Draco vs Harry/Hermione. I mean, really.

Meanwhile the slashers are vanishing into some crazy one-upping of shock value, as though really all they want to do is shock you, not write an interesting story or explore some sort of canon or even fanon dynamic—none of it. Well, son, if you act 15 I'm going to treat you like you are 15, so whatever with that.

I do have an entirely different theory about all of this, but I'm not sure it's ready for public consumption yet.

I really see where you're coming from. While these days I'm mostly into slash, het was what got me into fandom in the first place and I still love it. And as far as femmeslash goes, I just don't get why there's such a lack of good f/f slash. Personally I think that some girls could have the same interesting dynamic as other pairings.

I have another little corollary to the theories floating around on lasultrix's journal, but it would most certainly piss some people off :)) so I'll save it for YM. I will say that I've never seen the "ew het" thing up close and personal-like, but I am a sheltered little newbie who doesn't really run around in shippy circles, and even if I did I don't tend to take personally this particular brand of crazy. And yeah, I usually read more slash but generally read whatever (and have just finished writing my first bit of het, with OK results), but that's largely because it IS true that the female Potter characters aren't the ones who particularly interest me. I mean, I've TRIED to get into them, and the best I can come up with is this sort of lurid "there-goes-that-train-wreck" kind of horrid fascination with Molly Weasley's character and way too much personal association with Hermione and her class-bending tendencies and her need to prove herself at every possible opportunity.

So. Anyway. Whatever. Am interested to see what comes out of your fic search.
