Okay, kids, I'm going to post the answers to the songs tomorrow, in order to give certain people *cough*heidi*cough* time to revisit. (Dionne, really, there should be a gimme in there for you. Carrie seems to know it.) So since I'm hanging about at home today and doing many personal grooming thingies, I'm putting in another meme to keep myself amused.

1. Scan my interest list and pick out the one that seems the most odd to you.

2. I'll explain it.

3. Then you post this in your journal so other people can ask you about your interests.

Have at it, chums!

Interests meme!

My best friend's former band; you can find them on allmusic (http://www.allmusic.com). The other person with the interest was a friend or gf or something of the bass player.

He is now in a band called The Irreverends (http://www.irreverends.com/)>

your interests list is very short, and since i have an idea about what most of the interests are, I will ask why you have singing..

are you a singer? are you good? do you sing in the shower or the car? do you just like other people's singing?

It's true, it is sort of short, as I realized after I did the meme. Ah well.

I sang all through high school only to find after many failures to make All State that I am not a good classical singer. However, the training made me a better jazz singer, which is what I did in late high school. Didn't sing in college as most opportunities were classical. Sang in an a capella group in graduate school. Since then have mostly sung for my own pleasure though if/when I go back to school I might take up some of the offers that have floated my way. Singing professionally isn't something I want to pursue but I would like to sing more regularly than I do.

I'm a contralto, by the way. I used to know my range but it's moved around since I was younger so I'm not sure of it now. I actually think my voice has gotten better, which I find odd. C seems to like it, anyway.

Wow, so you've got like.. some talent for singing.. the extent of my public singing is karaoke, some choir in jr. high school (I was an alto, but very low.. sometimes I would sing the tenor parts at home when no one was listening).

Now my singing is reserved mainly for the car or while I'm cooking.

What about American history interests you?

Okay, so the reason I haven't answered this question is because I'm trying to go back to school and actually talking about it is intermittently completely petrifying.

I am interested in American cultural history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, say between the Civil War and WWII, though I am also somewhat interested in the latter half of the 20th c and certain bits of the earlier parts of the 19th. I'm also interested in very early forms of mass communication and the way that they formed a coherent popular culture. I'm into the ways that the dominant culture interacts with the subcultures that are around it, and then how that plays out in intellectual and artistic cultures as well as popular culture.

Phew. I hope that wasn't too technical!
