It's so random and yet so completely true! I love Barthes; reading him changed the entire way I approach not just analysis but study in general; it was the biggest "aha" moment of my academic life! Not sure about that grammar, though.
Up early to get in the car and go to Baltimore. House rather warm. Glad to have been woken from a really disturbing dream.
ETA: I am thankful for Roland Barthes for taking popular culture seriously and helping me to see how to take it seriously, and giving me the confidence to assert that other people should take it seriously, too, even at Harvard when I was just a little freshman from a lower middle class small town talking to upper middle class, well-educated "peers".
