Vacation, in a flash.
Aug. 29th, 2004 07:33 pmI realized this post was getting quite long, so I've broken it up into three themes: The Overview, The Drives, and The Food.
Friday was my early morning flight, and a perfectly fine one it was. Got my rental car and went to D's house, reported my presence, got online for a little while, scrounged for some food in D's empty and oddly smelly fridge, then napped in front of the tv watching Olympics. D got home and we grabbed some dinner and watched some Olympics.
Saturday we ran errands, which are somehow nicer when you are with a good friend and driving around in a Boxter with the top down. Then we went over to D's bf's place and hung out, and he fed us. He's a good guy and D seems very happy so that is all good. Then he had to work, so we took off and saw Garden State, which I liked very much.
Sunday D and I ate brunch out and read the paper on the back patio, then ran a few more errands and did a bit more driving, and then he napped and I futzed around online, and in the evening we watched even more Olympics.
Monday it was back to work for D and I went to pick up C at the airport. He was surprisingly hyper for someone who'd been on an early morning flight, so we got a bit of food and went for a drive. We got home and changed, and then we, D, D's bf, and friend L went out to dinner for my birthday and had a lot of margaritas. Whee!
Tuesday C and I went out to Pasadena to see my friend J, she of the marriage opinions, and spent the afternoon wandering about the Huntington Gardens. Once back at D's, C cooked us a most excellent dinner. L came by and we ate and watched the Olympics.
Wednesday C and I plotted out a long drive in the canyons. On the way we stopped off for some fish and carnitas tacos at Pancho's in Santa Monica. After a little bit of a rest, we walked along the beach in Venice down to the pier. D came home and we had planned to go out but were trapped by the luscious goodness of I Love the 80s Strikes Back.
Thursday, C and I drove to Palm Springs and back, and then went out to dinner with D.
Friday C and I hung about and did some laundry, and then went into town to LACMA and the Petersen Automotive Museum. Then we cooked a bit more and C went out carousing with a friend while I hung about with D.
Saturday we had brunch and then D took C to the airport, C finally getting to ride in the Boxster. D and I met up with L again at his office, where I raided the gratis cabinet (though I won't get my CDs for a couple of weeks) and then went for a bit of a drive. Once home D decided to shave off almost all of his hair, and I got more and more nervous about traveling as I often do, before I finally drove away for the airport—sob!
The flight was fine, though LAX was massive, massive chaos, and then getting back to my flat was very annoying thanks to the impending RNC convention. grr! But I'm home now!
