So I'm watching the Olympics last night with D, who is gay, and C, who is straight. And yes, D and I gave appropriate, aww, he's cute and has nice hair, to that Canadian diver. But after reading acres and acres of vaguely slashy but overtly pervy odes to swimmers on my flist, I was very surprised to hear this from the two of them.

We were watching tape of Kerri Walsh and Misty May celebrate their gold medal victory in beach volleyball—and I don't know if anyone has seen this or was paying attention, but first Kerri smacks Misty on the ass, and then Misty hugged Kerri and they flopped down into the sand, with Misty on top:

I thought their eyes were going to bug out of their heads! The boys were making all these slashy comments during the interview after as well.

Hmm, didn't see anything about that around here. What, do we not like girls in bikinis hugging in the sand?

Oh, and Huntington was great, much much fun there, and we're going for a drive today.

Ahaha I was totally thinking slash when the camera got really close to them, er, rolling about in the sand. Heh. Of course, the Olympics have been helping us slash like nothing else since they started.

Haha, no, in my household many many comment were made throughout the beach volleyball about the slashiness of it :))

We don't really care. *pokes their bosoms* Nope. Still no caring. :D

I have three things to say to that:

A. D seemed to care, and D is like, not with the caring about girls. At all. Doesn't even want to poke. Nothing. Vagina Dentata, baby. But he was all freaked out, I think just over the fact of it.

2. Balance, man, balance! I'm just looking for balance!

III. What they were doing was easily, easily the slashiest thing that has happened in these Olympics thus far and for that reason alone I think it was worthy of comment.

Mostly, though, it's just that I'm the only straightish woman around since I left NYC.

Dude, I think the Greek synchronised diving hugs were slashier. Also, they were wearing less. :D

Eh, I generally don't care about the Olympics (because I hate the fact that my country's spending so much money going to it when they should be spending said money on more important things like, say, international debt)

But yeah, it seems everyone only cares for the slashiness of swimmers. I would personally prefer to watch the beach volleyball girls, seems more exciting.

John, sometimes it's not good to ignore your allies, you know? Or alienate them?

fandom hates lesbians. It's just the way it goes.

Not trying to ignore or alienate anybody, hon. Just saying that my interest in scantily clad women hugging is, frankly, minimal.

I SHIP MISTY MAY AND KERRI WALSH. More than I ship Thorpe and Van Hoosiewhatsits. ( Though Thorpe is hot and questionably metrosexual. I will give him that. And I see the appeal. And I have more to say but my cat has fallen asleep on my right arm. )

Well, I've gone off the Olympics. I am the anti-sport, and I was really only there for the mostly naked men, anyway. I am left with some kind of appreciation, though, mostly along the lines of "man, they can swim really FAST!" and "how do they NOT hit their heads on that platform thing? Everytime they jump off I'm SURE they will, and they never do!" I'm calling that progress.

They were talking about this on the radio this morning, though; the drivetime DJ sounded like he needed a cold shower. So, yeah, it's making a splash, and there does seem to be slashy perving, but you're right - it's not on my little corner of LJ, either.

I remember that ass-slap, thinking "I thought only football players did that!" Definitely slashy.

Pity the men don't play in similarly skimpy outfits, although I certainly didn't mind the near-eyeful I got with the women....

The men's beach volleyball outfits pretty much sucked and I was really annoyed. I'm not really sure why the women couldn't play in tank tops and shorts, too. But then again, if ya got it, flaunt it.

Sing it, sister. It's just odd. Do you think that it's because HP stars a boy? As BtVS is a lot more "bring on the hot girl on girl action!" and the bad femslash written by boys. It's where Ruby got the whole "agressive clit licking is the oozing cock of femslash" thing.

I just want balance! I'm tired of caring about things no one else cares about! I'm tired of noticing things and getting a yawn in response! Wah!

I'm also being a total baby, but whatever, I don't give a shit. If I can't get balance, I'll provide it, dammit!

Yeah, the girls couldn't have been wearing less.

I dunno, man. Maybe we can say it's a tie. I mean, they were rolling around in the sand giggling and every man in this country is vaguely freaked out today.

Per the above, and what I've heard, that seems to be the general reaction of many of the men of this great land of ours.

Heh, I'm happy there was rolling in the sand, but I am just not a sports watching type so I've steered clear of the Olympics - so this is the first I heard about it. I am only not bewildered by the Thorp (is it?) and other swimmer squeeing on my flist because I understand how one *could* squee about such things.

Those girlies sure look scrumptious together. :D
