What I'm mostly surprised by last night is that despite the Barry Manilow theme, there was a distinct lack of cheese. This is likely because Barry rearranged his old songs to suit the AI finalists, and because no one sang "I Made It Through the Rain." Barry stuck around to be a guest judge, and you know, the thing about being different looking to begin with is that you age really well.

Diana kicked us off with a very nice version of "One Voice." She needed a good week and she got one, finally, and it was noted by the judges. But honey, start dressing like a teenager, okay? The light blue pantsuit and yellow shell has got to go.

George, what happened? You didn't need to monkey around with "Trying to Get That Feeling Again" nearly as much as you did! You are making some bad choices lately and I'm getting a bit worried. I would love for you to last in this competition!

Jennifer sings my all time favorite Barry song, "Weekend in New England" and wow. Just, wow. She is getting better and better every week, giving La Toya and Fantasia a run for their money. (However, honey, a cropped jacket and chain belt is not friendly to those with tummies.)

Jasmine sang "I'll Never Love This Way Again." She was fine, like she is every week. Maybe a little bit better than fine, but only a little. Simon was right, Barry was very kind to the ladies. Maybe it's that Bette Midler thing—he knows how to work with a baby diva.

La Toya sang the one song I didn't remember, "All the Time" and she was fantastic as always, just so confident and she just walked out there and nailed it. Good for her.

Oh, John. John John John. "Mandy" was our one moment of cheese, and I'm sorry, but the big finish to the song was quite beyond you. On the one hand, I think it was the only song you could really do well, but on the other hand, just, no. Slow down, you crazy child.

You know you're in for a treat when Fantasia is closing the show and man. Churching up "It's a Miracle" was exactly the right thing to do. She's a pro. LaToya and Jennifer are wonderful and amazing and deserve careers, but Fantasia is already there. It literally does not matter if she wins or not. And as Simon said, she takes chances, and I love that.

I think one of the boys will go this week, and I hope it's John. I think I'm going to vote for George just in case.
