Curmudgeon
Apr. 1st, 2004 02:54 pmI don't care for April Fool's Day.
I dislike practical jokes, or any other sort of humour that relies on someone's humiliation. (I didn't see any of those Ben Stiller movies, for instance.) Sure, there are people who are gullible, but there are also nice caring people who believe what other people say if it's credible. It annoys me that we have an entire day that is devoted to kicking nice people in the teeth.
Now, this may be because my father is a very sarcastic, mean man who played lots and lots of not very nice jokes on everyone around him all the time, not just on April Fool's; because he would say something really hurtful and then say, "Aw, I was just joshin' ya!"; because he liked to "get a rise" out of people.
Hence, I am not commenting on anyone's journal today and I am disallowing comments here. Wake me up on the 2nd.
(Note: I've been planning this post all day, but I was only able to make it now. It isn't about any specific joke, but about the day in general.)
