Sick day

I took Monday off. Went into work yesterday but by 11:30 realized that my brain wasn't working for unknown reasons. Came home. Threw open the windows and got into bed. Read my friend Julie's latest romance novel in the sunshine coming in the window. (If you like ugly duckling stories written with humor and intelligence, read her latest.)

Going into work in a few moments (gotta love that 15-min walk). I do feel much, much better.

Speaking of feeling better: After being the most annoying Pollyanna in chat Sunday, I plunged into a mini-dip of my own. I was out of it by yesterday afternoon. (For various reasons I don't think it had anything to do with why I was sick, though I'm sure it didn't help.) So what I said about things getting better is actually true, shockingly enough. The chasm is just as deep but the plunges grow shorter and less frequent. Regular life is able to get you out of them. Comforting, though of course the hallmark of depression is that when you're in it you lose sight of all of that. Le sigh.

Later: shipping. Really, I bet it won't even be controversial!

PS--while I was ill/down, I watched all three parts of the miniseries of Scruples on that WE network. Saw Gene Tierney (my girly avatar) portraying a middle-aged, dumpy lesbian fashion editor clearly modelled on Carrie Donovan. Of course, she was still fucking gorgeous.

PPS--So last night I was watching VH1 Classic and they were doing this "Two for Tuesday" thing. They played "Venus" by Bananarama, so I thought to myself, I will sit through this dreck and maybe the second song will be "Robert DeNiro's Waiting" and not "Cruel Summer." I was rewarded! W00t!
