While on the one hand I have spent almost my entire life called by a nickname rather than my real name (and that nickname isn't a diminutive) and so I don't really think too much about what people call me, I find myself becoming very private about names. Not in that "I don't want you to know my real name" CC way, because if you really really want to you can go digging through posts I made when I first came into fandom and find it. But in that, "It's personal and it has power" faerie way.

However, it occurs to me that I don't have nearly enough pet names for people, and I will be working on that in the next few months. *hugs Sasha*

Oh, and I tried to make me one of them cool icons all the kids are making, but I couldn't figure out how to get it from the site onto my computer. My Spanish isn't THAT bad. What was I supposed to do after I got it to look how I wanted? Please advise.

I think most people took screencaps on their little faces. :D

There was no freckling option on the little iconmaker. I felt betrayed. BETRAYED BY THE INTERNET. ;)

Yes there is. It's on the skin effects someplace. I know because I used them!

I know what you mean. I did expose a little more of myself than I felt completely comfortable with, but then, that's the purpose of this lj.
Although I will say that one of the advantages of being married, is that name-change thang, because it's really my maiden name that I feel protective about.

I am considering doing an "If I call you meme....

Mac or Windows?

Mac - take a screen shot of the final version by hitting Shift+Apple+3, or Shift+Apple+4 (one is whole screen, one gives you crosshairs to draw a selection). Both works on 9 and X. In X, this will save the file as PDF, if you launch Grab instead (located in Utilities), it will save it as a TIFF.

Windows - hit the Print Screen button, open your favorite graphics application and then hit paste.

THANK YOU

That was the problem; on my computer at work the "print screen" button didn't work at all, and since I'm not a pc person I assumed I was just doing something wrong. But I'll do it at home on the mac.

I would feel really weird about doing the name meme. Even if I just used online nicks I've had, there is a slim chance are that someone might see enough to be able to track me back to my full real name, which I stupidly used for a while in another fandom. And for me, I have both issues re people in general knowing my full real name: I just don't want everyone to know because I've run across enough freaky people online that I've grown cautious; and then, yes, it's personal and it has power. At least, when I tell someone online my real name, at the least I'm giving them a great deal of my trust, you know?

And as far as pet names others have for me, they are few and boring. My sister called me Armour Hot Dog for a while when I was little, but that's as special as it got. :P

(Btw, I am abandoning [livejournal.com profile] mahoney, and will be using this one. Is because I am fatally scatterbrained. *hopes you will friend me*)

I will totally friend you! I'm so, so glad you're still around! YAY!

I think people have lots of pet names for me because my given name is very common.

Where did "Clio" come from, anyway?

In the spring of 2002, [livejournal.com profile] ely709, [livejournal.com profile] evil_erato, [livejournal.com profile] lunasparrow and I (aka, the e!vil pink ladies) would talk fic plots all the time, and Ely mentioned once that we were like each other's muses, and so the Muses were born. We had decided to take muse names, and since Clio is the muse of history, I took that as my muse name and my pen name when I started posting EWFS. When I met [livejournal.com profile] folk, [livejournal.com profile] epicyclical and [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose that summer, they adopted it for daily use, and that's how people started calling me, Clio.

Though Heidi keeps spelling it wrong.

i know what you mean. i didn't ever separate my lj post's, so all my fandom friends, and RL friends just ogt all grouped together, and as a result, everyone knows me as my real name. sometimes i wish this hadn't happened, but...oh well?
