My holiday
Jan. 4th, 2004 06:44 pmI am not seeing any more holiday movies. They have been so somber and full of completely unsatisfying character arcs that they have me rather glum. This includes Cold Mountain, Girl with a Pearl Earring, and 21 Grams, which is a big fucking downer so be warned.
Anyway, spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day seeing those first two movies with my darling P. Boxing Day
ely709 arrived, early, and slept, which gave me the energy somehow to seriously clean this apartment. While she was here we looked at the shop windows, took some donations to goodwill, and watched Pride and Prejudice. She visited her cousin and I snuck off to welcome
ivyblossom to the city.
Then it was off to
blackholly's for a friend gift exchange, wherein my presents went over well (hurrah) and I received Scrabble, Balderdash, a most excellent mix cd, tea things and a beautiful drawing, some gorgeous earrings, a lovely hand-made hair clip, a skin for my ipod, and a very funny book.
This was followed by a most excellent New Year's Eve gala, where everyone looked smashing, particularly our host and hostess. The next day I made sticky buns which went over a treat--sticky buns being really a great thing for a house party as no one wants to slave away on them alone, and no one wants to wind up with 27 sticky buns in their house. However, I highly recommend rolling out dough and mixing fillings with
bhanesidhe in attendance.
Back in NYC, and Ely was off for home the next morning. Went shopping with
epicyclical and
tromboneborges and my friend A, and ran into Vincent Gallo at the Apple Store (this convinced A that he MUST get a picture phone). A and I toddled off to drink a lot of Mario Batali's wine accompanied by excellent pizza and caponata, then to watch 21 Grams, then to The Half King, that bar owned by Sebastian Junger, where we discussed the great and little accomplishments of our college classmates.
Saturday I went shopping and for tea with Emily, and bought a fabulous red coat and a yellow rain slicker with the xmas money from my parents. Saturday night found me at the Avocado likely singing the wrong harmonies for poor Josh and Ivy, then bringing Ivy back here overnight before her departure for our own personal New Zealand this very morning.
And what have I done today? Well, I did pack up old coats for donation, and order groceries online, and send my sheets and towels to the laundry. But mostly, I've procrastinated doing an important essay. Speaking of coats, I need to get one more, and I've decided on a Field Coat from LL Bean--so versatile, and the pockets are the best. But I'm stymied--
[Poll #228381]
(The stone and saddle are too light and would get dirty, and I don't care for the light brown.)
All right, that's enough procrastination. I'm going to order dinner, and get to work like a good girl. I hope.
