The messenger has arrived
Dec. 8th, 2003 11:28 amI'll post more about the weekend later, though *looks* you know, I need to get more entertaining about posting about my RL, as always crickets when I do. Hrm.
Anyway, while
evil_erato was off galavanting around last night, I was watching Angels in America: Millennium Approaches. Yes, I taped it, but Emily has first dibs so if you want the tape you may have to wait a while.
I was living in New York when Angels in America was first appearing on Broadway, and the buzz was deafening. "Yes, it's a 3-hour play and this is only the first half, but it's worth every second." I was also looking forward because Mike Nichols is just a master at bringing plays to screen--note Wit and VA Woolf. So there was a good deal of build up in my head about this.
Now I've seen the film and man, it is spectacular. If they air it as such again, I recommend watching all three "chapters" of Millennium Approaches in one go, because it's so very engrossing. Kushner has an amazing sense of language and of life and love and oh, just everything. I could gush away at the main performances, at Justin Kirk and Ben Shenkman and Mary-Louise Parker and Jeffrey Wright and Patrick Wilson, not to mention the wonderfully nuanced (for a change) Al Pacino as Roy Cohn. All I can say is, I dreamed about it, I can't wait to see part II on Sunday. It really is the work of our time. There is just no other way to describe it.
And now, Crystal and I have to decide if we're going to do anything with her last day here, or just lie around like slugs. Really, either will do.
