I meant to post this last week, but then Catja took my big pimping line. *scowls* Then I saw this video. I do not have a perm, I do not drive a caddie, but I do have a magic stick! So:

Right. So I saw Pirates of the Caribbean last night, finally. I really liked it, even though I don't really care much for action films. However, I have decided:
• That wig that Orlando has to wear as Legolas is a crime against humanity. It makes him look like the lost member of Lynyrd Skynyrd when he is really a very attractive young man, and not even in a bland way, though Will wasn't as interesting a character as he should have been.
• Johnny Depp is so incredibly funny, and so hot. I love love love him, have since 21 Jump Street.
• I truly love Anamaria, groovy black pirate chick. She's a pirate, she kicks ass, and she has the heart of Jack, you know. *ships Jack/Anamaria*
Now, once I made that generally known, my companions laughed at me for my penchant for minor characters. (CC might have said unimportant but I will be charitable as it is her birthday.) I think I was just ruined forever by a serious crush on Nick Carroway when I first read The Great Gatsby. So:

To add to my response to the first poll question - It's not "that's about it" because someone in the fandom can *make* you care about them by fleshing them out in fic or art. Blaise Zabini had one whole sentence, total, in the first four books, and is now considered semi-major due to fandom fascination (and, I'm sure, in no small part to CC).

So - minor characters are usually there to provide color, and I'm not likely to get *really* attached to them, but given the right fodder, I might well change my mind.

Anamaria was so awesome. I liked several of the minor characters, but none more than Anamaria -- the character had spark and personality, and the actress seemed to have instant chemistry with everyone with whom she interacted. I have my fingers crossed that her role will be retained and hugely expanded upon in the sequel! *bounce*

I completely agree with you. IF I were to write PotC fanfic (a vast IF) I would write Jack/Anamaria backstory, man.

The actress is great--she's shone in everything she's been in, even that horrible Britney movie. I first saw her in Center Stage, that odd ballet movie.

Anamaria! So that was her name! I was really stoaked that they actually used yanno, some black folks as pirates. I'm quite sure my ancestors were running around with those lots ^_- On another note-- I wish I'd seen more of her! She seemed awfully cool. ^_- All I could get was that jack stole her boat, presumably the one he floated atop the mast into the dock on , hehe.
