What actually happened . . .
Apr. 2nd, 2003 09:07 amWhee! I not only got a very shibby beta of wifeswapping back from Nancy last night, but I also got MPI9! Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend . . .
So, weekend before last, I went to the wedding of my friend S, accompanied by D, and it was SO MUCH FUN. Truly, I have rarely had a better time at a wedding. She was so gorgeous--she had this amazing bias cut satin dress that made her look like Norma Shearer, and she's very tall (5'11") with red hair so the whole effect was rather striking. No veil. The ceremony was very moving. The officiant was a UCC guy from CT who apparently had spent some time in East Africa, where her husband A was born. A is Ismaili, a mostly-Persian sect of Shi'a also followed by the Aga Khan, so there was an Imam there as well, who did a reading from the Quran. We all had translations in our programs. Plus, as A is also of Indian descent, we all got mehendi tattoos on the Thursday night before the wedding and I got to meet all of A's female relatives, who were so glamourous and gracious and all of that sort of thing. S and my other two college roommates were also there--sadly, the only times the four of us have been together since being graduated are at their weddings--and we just had a ton of fun, at the wedding and at the open house at S&A's apartment on Sunday.
Then D came over Sunday night and met the amoeba (recently returned from Lunacon) and we all watched the Oscars. I don't really have much to say about them except that they were pretty damn boring.
This weekend, C was here! *hugs C* He arrived Friday night and after a few wrong turns and some incorrect directions from Yahoo, we got him to the Avocado, got some sushi, then sat around drinking raspberry cider (well, not C, he's not that sensitive) until 3am.
Saturday we ate brunch in Chelsea and then bought some food, came back to the Blue Room and cooked dinner. Amoeba showed up and we ate pork and quinoa and asparagus and partied until 3am once again. D even stopped by, on his last night in NY, his sister in tow. She hadn't seen my apartment redecorated with its blue paint and red couch, and was amazingly complementary. As she is a designer by trade, I was very flattered!
Sunday, C and I had brekkie and then he drove back home, and later
gehenna1 came by to watch Laura, Six Feet Under (which was great!) and Queer as Folk (which was lame!) and we made mac and cheese with broccoli. Yum!
A - Act your age? On occasion.
B - Born on what day of the week? Saturday, which means I work hard for my living but also that Mickey Dolenz is in love with me.
C - Chore you hate? Washing dishes
D - Dad's name? Robert
E - Essential makeup item? Lipstick. I have large eyes, and they'll take over my face if not balanced by some strong lipstick.
F - Favorite actor? This changes every day. Cary Grant or Gene Kelly, I suppose.
G - Gold or silver? Silver
H - Hometown? It's a tiny place in Maine that no one but
snapessecret will ever have heard of.
I - Instruments you play? Flute, saxophone, and a bit of percussion.
J - Job title? Associate Director
K - Kids? No, or hopefully not yet.
L - Living arrangements? I live in the Blue Room--a studio apartment.
M - Mum's name? Patricia
N - Number of people you've slept with? Right, like I'm telling you.
O - Overnight hospital stays? One, when I was very little, around 2.
P - Phobia? Heights.
Q - Quote you like? I'll fill this in, in a bit.
R - Religious affiliation? Lapsed Catholic
S - Siblings? Two, a brother and sister who are both pushing 50. More importantly, C and I adopted each other when we were 15 (he's an only).
T - Time you wake up? 7:30am.
U - Unique habit? Hrm. dunno. *thinks*
V - Vegetable you refuse to eat? Cauliflower.
W - Worst habit? Must stop smoking. Even the occasional smoking I do isn't good for me.
X - X-rays you've had? Do the Brits not have their teeth xray'd? Also of my foot when I fell on some ice in college (no breakage, but a soft tissue injury that still hurts on occasion), of my shoulder when I was having nerve problems in my hand (turns out I have two extra ribs--go me), an upper GI when I was having a lot of nausea before they figured out that I was lactose intolerant (yes, that's my doctor's diagnosis, thanks), and a series of cat scans, MRIs and other tests when I was having dizzy spells before they figured out that I was hypoglycemic.
Y - Yummy food you make? I'm a pretty good cook, so a few, but the veggie burrito recipe is all mine, not from any book, so I'll claim that.
Z - Zodiac Sign? Virgo, but only just. I'm August 23, smack on the cusp, and an astrologer friend had to look me up in several books before she could say for sure.
