It's not so much the iTunes theme as the Ryan theme, apparently, and we get to see one of his 27 other jobs. What was odd is that they're listening to him in the car—when AT40 isn't aired live. It's recorded and put on satellite for radio stations to air in various time slots. I love him getting his radio nerd on, playing sound effects and stuff.

Never mind Simon being Ryan's fanboy, and Ryan merely nodding "you know you are, bitch!" ♥

Poor Ryan, his ability to get the damn show in on time is made so much harder by another judge, isn't it? That said, I was hoping that the theme was the current iTunes downloads, instead of "of all time", because it's better to force them to sing something current. I was a bit out of step with the judges, which doesn't usually happen.

  1. Anoop, "Caught Up." Can I just say, Anoop really handled the talk back thing with a lot of class. Someone—I think it was Idolator—said he needs a mini-makeover and I agree; it's hard to take him seriously as R&B when he's so collegiate. And he's a capella guy—shouldn't he be able to twist around these arrangements?
  2. Megan, "Turn Your Lights Down Low." Apparently she's been adopted by VFTW, so get used to her. [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose notes that Megan doesn't seem to know what people actually like about her, and so she can't capitalize on it.
  3. Danny, "What Hurts the Most." Okay, when you're doing the sensitive center spot violin on the stage thing you have to cool it with the boy band hand gestures. The thing is, he sounded perfectly fine, so I don't really have anything negative to say about it, except that I just don't care about him at all.
  4. Allison, "Don't Speak." That song was edited very strangely, wasn't it? I'm not sure why the whole conversation was about her dress, and I worry that they're starting to take her singing for granted. I hope that Ryan brought it around enough for people to vote for her.
  5. Scott, "Just the Way You Are." [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose would like you to know that she is personally offended. Look, this is a treacly song to begin with, but it has a lot of moments that break that, like "I never want to work that hard." And Scott just eliminated all of it, and smoothed out the rough edges. And why on earth did he feel the need to slow the song down?
  6. Matt, "You Found Me." I dunno, I liked it. But I agree that he doesn't need to show his versatility; he needs to show us what sort of artist he is.
  7. Lil, "I Surrender." One thing I can say for her, it didn't sound like Celine Dion.
  8. Adam, "Play That Funky Music." So he's flipped for me, and now I find him mostly completely ridiculous and hysterical, and I'm just going to sit back and watch him do his thing.
  9. Kris, "Ain't No Sunshine." I thought that was fantastic. Go Kris!

[Poll #1375882]

I voted for Allison, Matt and Kris.
