Love, Actually is on Bravo tonight and for various reasons I started out an hour behind, which was very handy for fast-forwarding:

Storylines of Love, Actually that I enjoy, in ascending order:
  • Billy Mack and his devoted manager
  • The Prime Minister and the curvy girl
  • Tiny Sam and the American girl
  • NAKED STAND-INS. FULL OF WIN.

Storyline of Love, Actually that I don't care about that much:
  • That whole thing with the guy who goes to America and picks up girls in Wisconsin or something. Whatever.

Storylines of Love, Actually that I do not enjoy, in descending order:
  • Colin Firth and his sort-of-maid-whatever
  • Laura Linney sacrificing for her brother
  • Alan Rickman being an ass to Emma Thompson
  • Best man in love with bride Keira Knightly. Um, no.

Do you have movies that you only watch for the good parts?

I love the scene where Emma Thompson goes into the bedroom to cry about the gift. I watch for that one. And various other scenes. I think some of the scenes with Colin Firth and the sort-of-maid are cute. They just don't fit with most of it, just like the part with the guy going to America.

And I have lots of movies I watch for the good parts. Or movies I watch for the end.

I also adore the relationship with Liam Neeson and his stepson in that film.

My favorite watch-for-the-good-parts film is That Thing You Do!

I loved Laura Linney up until the sacrifice. That plus Alan Rickman made me kind of sorry I'd spent my $. If I were going to watch it again, I'd only watch the LL storyline up to where KARL IS TAKING HIS CLOTHES OFF OMG *chews on hand like Laverne & Shirley*.

Of the bad storylines you listed I do like the Christmas scene where Emma Watson cries and I like the final proposal in the Colin Firth story, probably because it's intercut with Liam Neeson's stepson and Joanna in the airport.

I watch the movie Session 9 pretty much just for the parts where they play tapes of the old psychiatrist sessions. The sound's just done really well and the actress--if it's only one--doing the woman with the split personality is great. Don't care about the psycho-murdering-people part.

I know there's other movies I watch for good parts and now I can't think of any...

Me, too! And Liam Neeson's friendship/siblinghood/I forget with Emma Thompson. You know, the parts of Love, Actually I liked are not enough to make me bother fastforwarding through the parts I didn't.

I often, however, fastforward through the extended ballet in the middle of old musicals.

I agree with you about the beloved storylines in Love, Actuall, but I don't personally like the Wisconsin guy much - and I love the Keira Knightly storyline because I have totally fanwanked it in my head such that they are a romantic trio by the finale. But God, the Emma/Alan storyline breaks me every time. ROwan Atkinson FTW, though, forever.

Yeah, I don't think I'd ever buy or rent it, but it was on tv and I was doing things so I just went ahead and ff'd through it. The parts I like I really like a LOT, but the parts I don't like I have pretty much no use for whatsoever.
