O link pals, help a girl out? I'm trying to track down the timing of two different, if not really wanks certainly kerfuffles from a year or so ago in fandom.

The first was the battle over the word "bandom," when some were trying to limit it to the FOB/MCR/PatD crowd, and others were saying that it is an inclusive term referring to all music rps.

The second was the discussion of a vid that I believe had been screened at a con, and I think was called "Us." I know that it went through several classic mediafandom SF slash pairings, starting with Kirk/Spock and ending with McShep or SPN or something. There was a lot of discussion around that video, about who felt included in the "us" and who wasn't.

The tags on metafandom aren't helping me, and I think having a time period or something specific to look for would help more. Any memories?

I'm pretty sure that "Us" came from Vividcon, maybe? And in my head it's all tied up with the first con.txt, which may be totally inaccurate, but if they're on teh same timeline, that'd be the summer of 2006.

US was first published to the greater internets on March 1st, 2007 (http://community.livejournal.com/vidding/989634.html).

ETA - it was definitely released then, not earlier, and the discussions about it took place then also (I remember because I was on holiday and while I did download the vid, I couldn't follow the meta).
