J Lo had to back out of judging the Project Runway collections at the last minute and who stepped in? Why, Tim Gunn! My goodness, to see him at the judges' panel! And the very last one on Bravo/with Magical Elves.

The Bryant Park show was this morning; six designers and who knows how many of them were decoys. Project Rungay has the pics up from Getty:

OMG TIM

Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim

that said....

Jerell -- I can't decide what I think about this. My first thought was WOW HELLO SEQUINS, and a few of the pieces are just...really discordant, like a perfectly nice dress with some random ass thing tacked on (what the hell is up with that black netting in the first piece?!) On the other hand, I really enjoyed some of that detailing, and kept wishing I could see the pieces up close.

Suede -- So the theme seems to be "skirts that were taken from a Disney Princess costume?" And that white ruffly shoulder thing is just ridiculous, it makes her look like half a pink Romulan.

Joe -- Man, I hope he makes it in, because this was BY FAR my favorite collection, I totally want to own half those clothes! Those orange pants with all the crazy detailing, that awesome star dress, and just the overall practical earthiness of the pieces. However, you know, none of it was that flashy and was mostly pretty casualwear, so I'm sure the judges won't agree with me.

Kenley -- I LOVE the dress with the flowers spilling across it. The rest of it left me kind of cold -- like it's fine, but nothing she hasn't done before, and nothing I found all that interesting. She seems to have a thing with covering people up to the neck, too, which is a little odd.

Korto -- The first dress is killer, the second is really pretty, the others are nice! But again, not really doing much for me. Which is sad, as I really like Korto!

Leanne -- Beautifully made, really coherent as a collection, very HER, which is always good. But some of it is so sculptural that it doesn't feel like clothing anymore, though I did really enjoy the soft, cool palette she chose.

Jerell--discordant is a really good word for it. I feel like it's sort of a mess in a lot of ways. He's very skilled but his taste level is odd.

Suede -- seriously who would wear this?

Joe -- the problem is, they look like mall clothes. Is he ready for mass market? Yes. Is he actually saying anything here? No.

Kenley -- I also loved that dress in particular, and the rest of the collection I didn't care about, though I thought the wedding dress was pretty.

Korto -- I liked the shorts but not the really short dresses. I like how she played with volume. I found it the most interesting.

Leanne -- I agree with all you say.

It's hard to work out who would have won; if J Lo had still been on the panel I would say Korto, but as it is, it's Korto or Leanne, really.
