Reality tv-fu continues
Jun. 12th, 2008 12:33 pmFor the second time my own personal favorite actually won a reality show! I fell for Stephanie from the first episode, seeing her cooking in her kitchen with her Yoda backpack. It could be that I just have a weakness for curly-haired curvy girls (wonder why?) but she was also so calm, so positive, and yet undeniably talented. She was in either the top or the bottom every single week, which means she was taking risks. The tie with Richard for elimination wins was a great point to make in that final show—I know a lot of folks thought it was his to lose but even if Richard and Stephanie had made no mistakes, Stephanie still was able to cook things that surprised. She was much lower key and less cerebral about it, but she was still willing to put together interesting combinations, which sometimes succeeded (her lamb dish) and sometimes failed (that weird tomato-peanut butter thing from the kid challenge). This is absolutely not to knock Richard; while I was on Team Stephanie I really adored Richard and I wish they both could have won. Richard has a car, and a lot of people who will find him in Atlanta. What Chef Tom said about the meat course could be applied to the entire meal: "Richard's dish just needs work. Lisa's dish is just pedestrian. Stephanie's is full of surprises and it works."

Reunion next week, and let's hope that Lisa isn't as drunk as Tiffani was, nor wears pink trousers.
