Everything's (Most Certainly NOT) Alright
Apr. 22nd, 2008 10:49 pmOkay, I admit, I'm a little disappointed in what songs they chose, and having watched the show, I think nearly everyone chose badly. I'm surprised at how harsh Paula was tonight, myself. Just a dull show all around, with no energy on that stage at all. The best parts were at the very end, when Ryan sang and the judges wore the masks.
[Poll #1175601]
I voted for D.Cook, Carly and Jason.
- Syesha, "One Rock & Roll Too Many." We are unhappy that she isn't wearing roller skates. She jumped the opening a little but she got back right on, so good job. I also thought it was a strong performance, but kinda "Smokey Joe's Pub."
- Jason, "Memory." This is sooooo 70s cracktastic variety show. THIS IS WHY I WATCH THIS SHOW PEOPLE.
- Brooke, "You Must Love Me." You know, I was worried about her this week, and I was right, because she isn't great at getting the meaning of the lyric across (remember "Every Breath"?). The start stop thing didn't help, either. Oh Brooke, where did you get so lost?
- small David, "Think of Me." I thought it was very pleasant, which was better than anything thus far. Also I want to note that I thought that before Simon said it: totally forgettable.
- Carly, "Jesus Christ Superstar." She hasn't sounded this good since the first night of the Beatles. Thank god ALW got her to change up her song.
- D.Cook, "Music of the Night." So like, I really hate this song. No, really. He sounded fantastic, and I completely agree with Simon. Also? He should have suited up if he was going to do the song that straight.

Date: 2008-04-23 03:20 am (UTC)I really do wonder why anyone thought Andrew Lloyd Webber as a theme would be a good idea just in general, though. It's just. I mean, that's the sort of theme you get in junior high talent shows, right?
I was waiting for your post to find out which performances I should track down; Carly sounds like the big winner for the night. Because, Jesus Christ Superstar! Woo!

Date: 2008-04-23 12:35 pm (UTC)Carly rocked. Everyone else (maybe not Syesha) kinda blew.
I lament the inevitable loss of Brooke, but I continue to wonder what she was ever doing on this show. She needs to do the lonely chick with the piano and awesome lyrics thing - but I get the idea that she doesn't have the depth to really write awesome lyrics. I dunno, she is a mystery.

Date: 2008-04-23 01:54 pm (UTC)You're so spot-on about Brooke. It's sad that Paula was so impatient with Brooke this week; I think she wants her to grow a pair, already, or she isn't going to get anyplace.
