Okay, I admit, I'm a little disappointed in what songs they chose, and having watched the show, I think nearly everyone chose badly. I'm surprised at how harsh Paula was tonight, myself. Just a dull show all around, with no energy on that stage at all. The best parts were at the very end, when Ryan sang and the judges wore the masks.

  • Syesha, "One Rock & Roll Too Many." We are unhappy that she isn't wearing roller skates. She jumped the opening a little but she got back right on, so good job. I also thought it was a strong performance, but kinda "Smokey Joe's Pub."
  • Jason, "Memory." This is sooooo 70s cracktastic variety show. THIS IS WHY I WATCH THIS SHOW PEOPLE.
  • Brooke, "You Must Love Me." You know, I was worried about her this week, and I was right, because she isn't great at getting the meaning of the lyric across (remember "Every Breath"?). The start stop thing didn't help, either. Oh Brooke, where did you get so lost?
  • small David, "Think of Me." I thought it was very pleasant, which was better than anything thus far. Also I want to note that I thought that before Simon said it: totally forgettable.
  • Carly, "Jesus Christ Superstar." She hasn't sounded this good since the first night of the Beatles. Thank god ALW got her to change up her song.
  • D.Cook, "Music of the Night." So like, I really hate this song. No, really. He sounded fantastic, and I completely agree with Simon. Also? He should have suited up if he was going to do the song that straight.

[Poll #1175601]

I voted for D.Cook, Carly and Jason.

I love how we both think that Carly, at least, got it right!

...I dont want to talk about the Colton thing. *cries* I sat on the couch with [livejournal.com profile] mytmouse18 repeating over and over how my baby Colton would have been a little shining star tonight. *sigh*

..lol I really wish Castro had done just..something Bright! and light...and basically Mr. Mistofeeles. his hair could have been fashioned into a little cat wig with ears....*whistles*

I've never seen Carly happier--and she just KILLED it..she seemd so happy and free and DAMN she just blew it all away. And reminded me very much of Kelly Clarkson

She needs to listen to her inner self! Jeez! So does Brooke. They're both being crushed by the wheels of industry right now and it makes me sadjaya.

Here, have some sincere Ryan.

So I don't watch American Idol at ALL and know nothing about these people, but happened to catch the recap clips at the end. And just had to comment here because WOW, Carly was *amazing*.

She was a bright spot in an otherwise dull and disappointing evening.

I'm too tired to think of anything witty to put in the boxes. I just wanted to say I'm so glad I wasn't the only one thinking the show was dull and ultra-cheesey.

The only things that made the show worthwhile were at the very end: Ryan singing, and the silly masks on the judges. And also almost Carly.

I did an entire post of what I thought the kids should've sung, complete with YouTube links.

My husband yelled upstairs to me that Jason was going to sing 'Memory' and my first thought was "oooh, the judges are going to eviscerate him just on principle." :))

I really do wonder why anyone thought Andrew Lloyd Webber as a theme would be a good idea just in general, though. It's just. I mean, that's the sort of theme you get in junior high talent shows, right?

I was waiting for your post to find out which performances I should track down; Carly sounds like the big winner for the night. Because, Jesus Christ Superstar! Woo!

If you like Music of the Night you should look up D.Cook. But those are kind of it AFAIAC.

I cannot stand Music of the Night. Fingernails on a chalkboard. Gah. But I'm glad he did well on it; I hope he stays in there.

I was so excited about this week, and then when I knew I'd miss the show I had my sister spoil me for all the songs and performances, and I really couldn't believe what she was saying. All of the songs they could'v'e picked, and Castro chose "Memory"? Wee!David chose "Think of Me"? Man. Seriously missed opportunities. I caught DCook's performance, and it was good and all, but there were better options for him to do his thing.

Well, ALW was a hoot, I hear, so I'm off to hunt for YouTube clips.

Crappy, crappy choices. Mystifyingly crappy choices.

Next week is Neil Diamond though, where even bad choices are good!

I only watched David Cook because my household will revolt if I make them hear one more second of it. So it's a good thing he was awesome, because I loved it. I voted for the first time this season. :/

Hmm.

Carly rocked. Everyone else (maybe not Syesha) kinda blew.

I lament the inevitable loss of Brooke, but I continue to wonder what she was ever doing on this show. She needs to do the lonely chick with the piano and awesome lyrics thing - but I get the idea that she doesn't have the depth to really write awesome lyrics. I dunno, she is a mystery.

Well, I didn't think dCook blew so much as "sang a song very well but made himself unrecognizable" but I'm trying to be charitable because there isn't a word for how much I loathe Phantom in total and that song in particular.

You're so spot-on about Brooke. It's sad that Paula was so impatient with Brooke this week; I think she wants her to grow a pair, already, or she isn't going to get anyplace.
