I've been shouting about How I Met Your Mother for a while now, and I reckon if you want to come to it, you will. [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose and [livejournal.com profile] emsariel are almost done with my Seasons 1&2 DVDs—who else is interested?

For those of you who already on board, two bits of good news, one anecdotal, one official. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Britney brought HIMYM its highest ratings ever, and since the other three shows of the night were all down from last week, folks really did just tune in for HIMYM and then tune right back out. HIMYM had a strong week when it came back from the strike hiatus, too, so we have great momentum going into the late season; hopefully the show is off the bubble, lame-o CBS exec or no lame-o CBS exec.

And I had a sense that things were moving because that Yuletide story I wrote? I got three reviews in the last week—I went to [livejournal.com profile] yuletide to see if I was the story of the day or something, but no. I think that was all new viewers; one reviewer who said she had just started watching and hoped that Yuletide would provide fic. Exciting!

Where as I thought the star of that show was the ghost from the Battle of Antietam.

Dude, I am seriously hoping they get off the bubble. You can sort of see where they're setting things up to be able to wrap up the show if they are cancelled, and while I appreciate that sort of foresight, it's also depressing to notice.

HIMYM is most definitely FTW.

LOVE that show. I've only seen maybe 80% of it on TV, and I'm always looking for HD or DVD quality to download, but no dice.

I'm so happy the rating are good, I'd be so sad if they canceled this show!

It's true, though I will say that on the second season DVD they were saying that they were close to final casting for the mother, so I think all along they were planning to introduce her this season. And wasn't it the end of last season that we got the umbrella clue? The difference I think (I hope) is how long we see them together before the show ends. Anyway, last year they dragged it out until the day before the upfront, which, lame.

No, the yellow umbrella was in the premiere of season one (I only know this offhand because I was just going through caps to make icons yesterday). I was thinking more along the set-up of Ted's phone still being missing from St Patrick's Day, and Stella having been at the party - the mother could easily have the phone, or they could quickly make Stella the mother. (I feel Stella as the mother would be lame, not because I dislike her--I like her a lot--but because the kids clearly at this point would have instantly known it was their mom and butted in [even though it seems pretty safe to assume they have lost one or both of the actors playing the kids, as the only time they are even shown they aren't speaking] for Ted to STFU.) However, that's a good point regarding the difference being how long we see them together.

Pardon me, I meant the premiere of season three!

Oh, reunion. <3

They said on the commentary for season 2 that they didn't lose the kids, but the boy particularly is HUGE and so they can't use them anymore.

Here is the inside reason Stella isn't the mother: Alicia Silverstone was originally cast as Stella and dropped out when they cast Britney. So you know that (1) they wouldn't have recast the mother for the sake of the Britney stunt, however much it helped them (2) the mother shouldn't have been threatened by a one-ep stunt (3) they probably wouldn't have cast someone of Silverstone's stature as the mother, while they well could have cast Sarah Chalke.

Did you see tonight's ep yet? Because the tag is AWESOME.

Oh, that's good to know! I haven't watched any of the S2 commentaries yet as I loaned the DVDs to Julie as soon as I bought them and she has yet to return them. Although, sad that that probably means we won't see the kids again as I thought if one of them had got another gig they could at least be persuaded to pop in. There was some mention on the S1 DVD commentary about the boy possibly having just landed a show which is why I thought this was the case.

See, I knew this about Alicia Silverstone, but I still feel they could opt for Stella if pressed, particularly because she's now Sarah Chalke.

I haven't seen it yet! I didn't get out of work until 10:30. I usually don't end up watching it until Wednesday because there's never a stream or a DL up on Monday.

ITA, except that I really think that they've had the mother on contract since they started filming this season, if they were so close to casting her when they were doing the DVD commentary. The great thing about HIMYM, though, is that they are both careful planners and fast on their feet, so I do trust Craig & Carter to adapt however they need to. Which is an amazing thing to be able to say.

Okay, I miraculously found a stream, and that was the greatest tag of all time.
