We started with red carpet (RYAN!), moved on to Barbara, and then got to the Oscars.

Go Coens! Big year, three Oscars, wow!

11:35pm: DDL wins. His wife still wears a lousy dress. Jaye thinks that DDL might have dressed her. Helen Mirren almost makes up for it with sheer awesomeness. Tim wants to flood Taylor Hackford's house with his spit in order to win her heart.

11:25pm: YAY Diablo Cody for Juno!

11:10pm: So then Atonement wins best score, and we sort of aren't paying attention for the sake of bitching about John Williams.

11:02pm: The party dislikes Hilary Swank, but agrees that the "people who died, died" montage is the best one.

11:01pm: Making it even more likely that it will win the directing award, There Will Be Blood wins Cinematography.

10:55pm: I thought I couldn't love Jon Stewart more, and now I do, for bringing that lady back out to finish her speech. Oh, and the gay joke.

10:50pm: YAY Once!

10:47pm: On the final song from Enchanted: That woman is all ass and red hair!

10:34pm: On the honorary Oscar: North by Northwest is one of the best looking movies ever—such a perfect statement of mid-century design in every set, every costume, all of it. If he had done nothing else, Robert Boyle would deserve this award.

10:30pm: As Jon Stewart said, someone won their Oscar pool by guessing that Bourne would win best editing.

10:25pm: Oh, JACK. Also loving these montages, especially watching all the best pictures. [livejournal.com profile] sistermagpie, how many have you seen now?

10:20pm: LOVE the song from Once, too.

10:15pm: LOVE the wii! Come on, who wouldn't want to do that?

10:09pm: Wow, they're doing the actors early. And the Oscars do love a biopic! Also, she's pretty adorable in her fish dress, that Edith Piaf chick.

10:07pm: We love all the nerd awards.

9:59pm: The crowd is split on Kristen Chenowith.

9:55pm: The process montage was really boring. yawn.

9:48pm: James McAvoy remains hot. The Coen brothers are made of awesome.

9:35pm: DUDE! UPSET! Go Tilda Swinton! Could this be a whole Michael Clayton thing?

9:32pm: But we hate the stupid bee. Nice of Owen to stick around. I'm not sure that Peter and the Wolf is in danger of obscurity, but whatever.

9:30pm: We are all glad that Owen Wilson is back! Why are all the shorts foreign?

9:25pm: Very nice number!

9:18pm: [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose on Javier Bardem's win: "Serial killers always win, man. In film if not in life."

9:17pm: We're divided on Jennifer Hudson's dress.

9:14pm: Okay, Johnny Depp is super hot, and is wearing a tux sort of like Ryan's, but with a white shirt so it works a bit better.

9:12pm: Cate Blanchett is huge, and seriously gorgeous.

9:10pm: The Rock was awesome! So adorable!

9:05pm: And everyone heaves a sigh of relief that Norbit didn't win.

9:00pm: Why is Brad Bird still talking? Oh, right, we paused for dinner. But why is Brad Bird still talking?

8:54pm: We are all angry that Persepolis didn't win.

8:50pm: I love montages! Yay!

8:43pm: Costume design winner is awesome hot librarian with great neck and we love her.

8:42pm: Oh, Jen Garner, bad hair.

8:41pm: And Jon Stewart continues to be my tv boyfriend.

8:28pm: Jack Nicholson: "How's the Reeg tonight?"

8:26pm: Thanks for that fire story, Bill Conti. At least no one died!

8:25pm: OMG Regis shut up.

8:23pm: The entire party hates Hilary Swank.

8:22pm: Ellen Page is adorable.

8:15pm: What was that dress that Daniel Day Lewis's wife was wearing? With the Christmas ornaments and the bows?

8:00pm: I hate the stupid ABC red carpet bullshit thing, even if I love Regis. And wow, ABC totally poached Samantha Harris.

7:57pm: Wah, the return of that damn dress.

7:50pm: Harrison Ford is awesome.

7:35pm: The Ellen Page interview is the most cracktastic thing ever. A+

7:22pm: Upon rewinding to show [livejournal.com profile] illogicalvulcan the dress, we realize that it blew up while Barbara was talking about Harrison Ford.

7:20pm: Vanessa Williams is awesome.

7:11pm: Miley Cyrus is adorable, but that piece was oddly edited.

7:00pm: We are all horrified by Barbara Walters's weirdo gold caftan with turquoise beads, especially when it blew open to reveal her thighs. I never needed to see Barbara Walters's thighs. She looks like a Palm Beach hostess c. 1962.

6:30pm: I'm not sure I love Ryan's tux, but Seal does, so maybe it's just me. Giuliana looks incredible, though.

Ryan's tux has grown on me. But when I first saw it, I was like, What the hell was he thinking?

We were watching Barbara, but I have Ryan on the TIVO, so I'll have to see it after! But, Gary Busey is always freaky.

We gave up TV to be more virtuous or something. You are much speedier than the updates at the NYTs! :D

We should have gone somewhere to watch tonight.

Thanks! And we were even kind of behind because we paused to dish out our food.

IMDB seems to be moving pretty quickly to keep up with the awards, actually.

This still doesn't make the hours spent watching The Greatest Show on Earth worth it.

We agree. It is a deeply terrible movie. High Noon should have won, or at least The Quiet Man.

11:01pm: Making it even more likely that it will win the directing award, No Country wins Cinematography.

Err...didn't There Will Be Blood win Cinematography?

To be honest, the live blogging has been made a little difficult because Ali keeps stealing my computer. So sometimes I forget what I wanted to say while she has it! Thanks for the correction!
