I'm clio-jlh at Greatestjournal (GJ) and jlh at Insanejournal (IJ). I do not yet have a journalfen account, and I may or may not look into that. That jlh at GJ is me, but I cannot for the life of me find the validation email, so I can't get into it.

I'm going to let other people carry the water on the latest "Livejournal deletes fandomer's account for possible child porn" freakout. I just can't work up too much rage, and to be honest I'm still too angry about things that were said during the daily_deviant thing to have any left for this.

Also? People screaming "OMG my freedom of speech" any time anyone calls them on their bias has made me deeply cynical of any freedom of speech claims. I'm not saying I'm cynical of this one, just that the boys are crying wolf so often that we don't seem to even know a wolf when we see one.

I friended you at IJ. Same user name for me, too. I'm exhausted. I know you are, too. I'm almost glad my internet went down mid-argument yesterday.

It's getting to the point where I'm having to pick my battles. And while this is disturbing, the DD thing is still weighing too heavily for it to fully penetrate.

Yeah, it really is about picking your battles, and I know that while some people really care about the DD thing they're more comfortable letting me scream about it and just giving messages of support, so that's what I'm going to do on the endless childporn on LJ thing.

I honestly do believe that anything ad supported will eventually go the same route, especially with what has been going on at myspace and facebook. The media has whipped up a frenzy for parents about online predators when if they did a few things to pay attention to what their kids were up to . . . But no, why do that?

Never mind that it's like, federal law and the Atty General under the Bush Regime has decided that child porn is more important than a billion other things they could be doing. Gah. WhatEVER.

Also: there is a big difference between censorship and apologizing for hurting someone's feelings and trying to make it right. How had is that to understand?

It's very hard in an environment where people see any sort of language requests as being an encroachment on their free speech, even "stop shouting" or whatever, because it is more important to have free speech than a civil society, even though free speech should be empowering a civil society. Gah.

It's been one thing after another: HP crazies, race wank, then Aja burning tshirts on youtube. I'm definitely letting other people take the lead here, and I'm not even sure how much I'm going to want to be following them.

It's kind of a mess, as it often is with so many people who so passionately believe in their right to do whatever they want, all the time, and damn the torpedos. Eh. We'll see what happens when it calms down. It's certainly true that LJ is handling everything badly that there has been to be handled badly, which is much more my own complaint with them.

I agree. Is it so hard for LJ to just tell us yes and no what we are and are not allowed to do? It would make things so much simpler for all involved.
