First, people, you post so! Sheesh! Oh, and I was up far too late with the goddess that is Ely yet again.

Okay. Chapter 10 of EWFS is being abandoned for the time being. I had spun myself into the usual tizzy, and ely709 and raymarie had to talk me down from the ledge. Oh, no, not the ledge of abandoning the fic—far from it. Just from writing something truly terrible. [And for those of you following along, Chapter 3 is up. Yes, I know, I get ahead of my betas. Don't ask.]

The sequels to EWFS—particularly The Trick is to Keep Breathing—keep knocking at the door, and I had this sense that EWFS needed to be wrapped up so I could think about the new stuff. (Thank you Garbage for the inspiration for that title. If I were half as cook as Shirley Manson—but then, if I got within five feet of the band, let's face it, I'd be at Butch Vig's feet. Lucky me, I get to go to Madison for a wedding this fall, but they'll probably be on tour. Rats.) However, I have sent Seamus out to kick Harry and Draco to the curb so EWFS doesn't get hopelessly f'ed up.

In RL, I have made a momentous decision about career that has me feeling happier about many things than I have in a long time. Goodbye advertising, hello again academia. I left the ivory tower behind nine years ago this month, for so many very good reasons. Having a regular job rather than doing independent research was just better for me at the time, and better for me while I did what I've been doing for these nine years. But now, much of that is behind me, and I'm ready to go back. This of course will mean research into schools, scholars, programs, and, more than likely, leaving New York, to start hopefully as soon as fall 2003. But I've done what I came here to do. I woudn't be leaving with my tail between my legs, but with my head held high. Veni, vidi, vici.
