May. 19th, 2007 03:01 pmI know that some of you were concerned after reading the abstract of a paper that was given this morning, and I don't have time at the mo to write everything—not to mention that there were others there, like
pir8fancier, who would do a better job of it—but the problems was much more a bad abstract than a bad paper. She wasn't making any general claims for all slashers and in fact brought up two aspects which I've seen talked about often, that is, the elision of power differentials in slash because they're two boys, and … oh gosh, the other one I think was about the whole "ew het" thing but don't hold me to it.
I'll write something more coherent when I have a moment to confer with others—we had a fantastic post-panel conversation with
bookshop and Dr. Jenkins and
kitsune13 and others, any of whom might have better things to say about this—but the short answer is, no, it wasn't what y'all feared.
