Alas, for my Oscar-watching plans fell through due to weather, so I'll be chilling like a villain here in the Blue Room flat, live-blogging like the geek I am. (Any of you local pals who would like to brave the snow that is coming and the cat that is Veda are welcome, as the place is actually fairly tidy for once.)

I don't have a horse in this year's race, other than a lingering fondness for my own personal favorite film of the year, Little Miss Sunshine. The Queen looks like what folks have been saying, a tv movie with a great performance in the middle of it, and while I can go a lot of places with James Cromwelll, after seeing him last as a schizophrenic netty-pot-loving archeologist I'm not sure I could buy him as Prince Philip. After the self-satisfied lameout that was Crash there is no way I'm watching Babel. I might pick up The Departed on cable at some point, and as for Letters From Iwo Jima, I'm a girl so I think I'm not supposed to like war movies anyway. It might be the most boring ceremony ever. Ping me if you're watching, dude, and we'll be bored together.

Babel was actually good and nowhere NEAR as self-satisfied as Crash was. My favourite film of the year didn't get nominated and barely got seen :( so I am a bit 'meh'.

(Twas Breaking and Entering, fyi.)

i'm a long time lurker on your journal because of i love your pop culture commentary... slipping out the shadows just to say thanks for speaking the truth about Crash, a film I loathed so deeply I'm still angry it won!

I am so pathetic with my movie watching, that I just in the last 10 minutes finished watching Memoirs of a Geisha, and have a few more Oscar films from LAST YEAR to watch. I'm sure I'll get around to this year's contenders next year. *facedesk*

I'll be at my mother's eating a home cooked meal and watching with her.

Well, that IS good to know, so perhaps I'll head out and see that. Breaking and Entering only started playing here recently I think.

I have a serious thing for Minghella films, though. Well. Not Cold Mountain. But Ripley was one of my best ever, and this is just as good.

God, Cold Mountain was like, three hours of my life I will never get back. My buddy P and I saw it on Xmas night and it was really boring and the ending OMG lame with him dying but she's pregnant from the one time they ever had sex and like, why did we care about that whole journey he took if he was just going to die at the end? LAME.

I loved loved Ripley though.

Honestly? Do try to see Dreamgirls in a theater. Everything else, whatever, but you're going to want to be surrounded by that sound.

What did you think? And what did you eat?

I'm so flattered that you're a reader! Thanks so much.

Ugh, you know, I feel like the vote for Crash was a lot of people patting themselves on the back, when Crash actually pulled a lot of punchies IMO. But my original rant on this topic is here (http://jlh.livejournal.com/259334.html).

I'm getting my twice yearly hankering to see a movie in a theater, and since OotP is coming out in July, I'll use the other on Dreamgirls :D

I thought the show was pretty good, actually, if long. I mean, it's an awards show, so I expect lulls. I'm not some huge film buff either, so I kind of feel like the "montages" can go (except for the death one). Ellen was funny, warm and inclusive (as I feel she generally always is) so I liked her hosting a whole lot.

I was pleased to see Jennifer Hudson win, and finally Marty got his gold statue! I heard that Eddie Murphy left after he lost his award, and I'm hoping there's more to that than sour grapes, cause that's kind of offputting.

As for the food, Mom made ribeye steaks, rice-a-roni, creamed corn and biscuits. Nothing fancy, but it was filling and yum comfort food.
