jlh: a still of Jason Bateman from the film Dodgeball (gents: Pepper Brooks)
[personal profile] jlh
This was going to be a GIP because I made icons this morning, and uploaded some that other people made. And then the fallout from the whole Star Jones thing started happening at a Defamer/Gawker near you (me) so I get to use my new Pepper Brooks icon in all "seriousness."

The basic story is: Selling out to get freebies for her wedding to her husband Big Gay Al (and don't even get me started on that topic) and dramatic weight loss caused Star's likeability to drop through the floor according to ABC research. Barbara Walters, feeling badly, asked the suits to keep Star on so she could find another job and "leave with dignity." Star's numbers do not improve.

On April 6, Meredith Viera announced her departure to replace Katie Couric on Today and the producers tell Star that they won't be renewing her contract. On April 27, it is announced that Rosie O'Donnell will be replacing Meredith on The View. Rosie has been attacking Star on her blog and in interviews for lying about the real reason for her dramatic weight loss (surgery, Rosie thinks). The media universe predicts either a bitch fight on air (unlikely) or Star's departure (likely). Meredith leaves in early June after a week-long tribute, leaving the show with four hosts and Barbara pulling summer duty until Rosie starts in September.

Star's people and The View agree to an announcement this Thursday and a departure in mid-July. Star, for reasons of her own, surprises her cohosts by announcing her departure yesterday, sticking to the mid-July date. However, she's already done an interview for People in which she says "I feel like I was fired" and complains about the selection of Rosie. The interview is posted on people.com while Star is still on air live on the east coast.

Barbara sees the interview after the show and tells the NY Post "I was betrayed" because she had tried to help Star leave with dignity. At some point yesterday, Star's agents are told that yesterday was her last day. Barbara announces Star's earlier departure and some of the issues surrounding it on today's show, then Star calls Ryan Seacrest's LA radio show to tell her side of the early-departure story, and her feelings about Rosie. (Ironic that Star called Ryan, since his deal with E! lost her the E! Red Carpet gig.)

Star, I don't have much respect for you for a lot of reasons, but have you no sense of dignity madam, at long last? Have you left no sense of dignity?

Oh, snap. I was so happy to hear that she was leaving.
It's been a long time coming.

But then she goes and burns her bridges?
She deserves the fallout from this.

You don't mess with Barbara.

You don't mess with Barbara.
Dude, fully. She's the grande dame!

I really can't stand Star at all. She puffs herself up so much over her marriage and her weight loss. While losing weight isn't just a snap after the surgery saying that it's all willpower and pilates is just mean to others. Being pleased that you snagged a gay man? Bitch, please.

I cropped two new Rymon icons this morning and will take the opportunity to use one of them now.

o_O Oh, the drama!

See, I right away would have thought that she'd had the surgery because it was so dramatic. It's kind of amusing in a way because we women can never seem to get along sometimes, and the claws come flying out *laughs*

Thank you for posting this recap! I was kind of surprised, as I thought the controversy was between Joy and Rosie, and that Joy might leave because she's supposedly the "funny one". Oh well, shows how much I know. I never watch the show, they are just too annoying for me.

Star bugs everyone! She looks alright (not too thin), but I never knew that she was denying surgery. I thought she had the surgery, I mean that would explain the dramatic weight loss. Whatever.

This is all just so stupid. I find it pathetic that she refuses to admit to having had surgery - not to mention she sets up false expectations for people who might believe she did it all with lots of exercise and whatever else she's claiming. I'm not saying that weight loss surgery should be glorified, because I don't think so - I'm the first to state that it shouldn't be - but the lack of honesty about it just makes it seem more dirty than it is.

And marrying a gay man, if he is out, that's just beyond idiotic.

Star is beyond fucked up, and I don't know who she thinks she's fooling by not telling the truth behind her weight loss. But then, I lost all respect for her with her wedding. I mean, come on, people get married every day. You're no one special, Star.

Sounds like karma's a bitch.

I totally agree with you.
Star's never really been true with herself, which is one of the things I can't stand about her.
After the weight loss and marriage, she became a different person. (not that I liked the person she was anyways)
She used to be Cruella, now she has a little lap dog cuz it's part of married life? Whatever.

Oh, Rymon. Why you so lovely?

I dunno, i think women actually get along a lot better and the fights are more viscious precisely because of that, because there IS an emotional closeness. Anyway I've seen guy fights do this too, where everyone is all pissy and feels betrayed and makes biting comments in the press. We just characterize it as "what boys do", that sort of jockeying for position, while when women do it, it's being "bitchy."

But no, she never admitted it. She refused to talk about her weight loss methods in specific in her book, and on the show she talks about willpower and pilates. Yeah, right.

I will now use the new Wilson icon I grabbed this morning. It's like, the GIP post!

No, no. Rumors about Star leaving have been floating around since they made the announcement about Rosie. Anyway now Joy can be the funny straight one and Rosie can be the funny lesbian one or something. I still want to know who's going to "run" the show like Meredith but I guess that depends on who they get to replace Star.

She's not too thin but she never changed her hair and makeup to match her new slimmer face so she looks like a drag queen. I bet her husband Big Gay Al likes that, though. I know, bitchy! but she's so condescending and it's like no, Star, I actually really don't want your life like, at all. I was saying to Ivy tonight, she went from a smart single girl who sure, was heavy, to just another skinny bitch with a ring on her finger.

I give you my new Strictly Ballroom icon, which is what happens when you follow back someone's link to a multi-icon post.

I was thinking of you when I was like, "that doesn't mean it's easy" but sheesh, be honest about it! I mean, Rosie doesn't give her a hard time for having the surgery—she says that's a personal choice, whatever—but for being all "it's willpower and pilates." Like, whatever, Star. I think that's all part of her thing where she wants people to think she's so awesome and it's precisely that that turns people off!

Al has a long string of male exes and there are all these photos of him at Fire Island and stuff. Star even made this weird statement that was something like, "I know his past and I'm okay with that but he's with me now." Then she writes this horrid book about all the monkey sex they're having. I mean, there's another misstep, that book. People want to know how you got through the bad times, not 180 pages of how completely fabulous your life is.

Hmm. I think I will give you this quote icon from So You Think You Can Dance because it's pretty cute.

There are tons of rumors about how she was always violating ABC News policy on accepting free gifts. That whole "sponsor the gift bag for my wedding" thing was just gross. Seriously, what is she trying to prove? No one cares! And that's when she started losing her audience. If she'd stop shoving her wonderful life in our faces for five damn minutes. But whatever.

It's an older icon but I put the quote on it this morning.

I don't know but here, I'll give you more, mostly because I have a fetish for Ryan in his radio show headphones. For all his whatever he's such a geek, really.

And now I've used all my new icons in this one post! *is also a geek*

Exactly. I would never lie about it, because I don't want to perpetuate the myth that the right amount of willpower will solve a problem as bad as mine. I think that she does herself as well as the world at large a disservice by not being honest. I realize that there should be - note the should - a line which isn't crossed, so that celebrities can have some privacy, but let's face it, in this day and age, that's not particularly realistic. And when she's written a book and put her personal life out there so blatantly, to try to lie about something like this is just assinine and makes her look incredibly stupid.

Well, that's certainly questionable. I certainly believe in people being bisexual - I mean, hello! - but there's something odd about shoving one's amazing sex life in people's faces.

I give you an icon of one of the new chibis Val made me!

There are seriously NO WORDS for how pissed off I am that I was so out of pocket for the last few days and therefore missed all the pings from you with kickass Gawker and Defamer quotes. GODDAMMIT!

Also? She's gone from pathetic to contemptible in a frighteningly short period of time. Pity, that.

Dude, that all happened in a 24 hour period! Insane! And it's still going on; Star talked to the Daily News this morning and will be on Larry King tonight. I never watch Larry King but I hope that with this Star doesn't fill in for him more often because yuck.

I'm out of new icons but Wilson's overbite is still hot.
