This was going to be a GIP because I made icons this morning, and uploaded some that other people made. And then the fallout from the whole Star Jones thing started happening at a Defamer/Gawker near you (me) so I get to use my new Pepper Brooks icon in all "seriousness."
The basic story is: Selling out to get freebies for her wedding to her husband Big Gay Al (and don't even get me started on that topic) and dramatic weight loss caused Star's likeability to drop through the floor according to ABC research. Barbara Walters, feeling badly, asked the suits to keep Star on so she could find another job and "leave with dignity." Star's numbers do not improve.
On April 6, Meredith Viera announced her departure to replace Katie Couric on Today and the producers tell Star that they won't be renewing her contract. On April 27, it is announced that Rosie O'Donnell will be replacing Meredith on The View. Rosie has been attacking Star on her blog and in interviews for lying about the real reason for her dramatic weight loss (surgery, Rosie thinks). The media universe predicts either a bitch fight on air (unlikely) or Star's departure (likely). Meredith leaves in early June after a week-long tribute, leaving the show with four hosts and Barbara pulling summer duty until Rosie starts in September.
Star's people and The View agree to an announcement this Thursday and a departure in mid-July. Star, for reasons of her own, surprises her cohosts by announcing her departure yesterday, sticking to the mid-July date. However, she's already done an interview for People in which she says "I feel like I was fired" and complains about the selection of Rosie. The interview is posted on people.com while Star is still on air live on the east coast.
Barbara sees the interview after the show and tells the NY Post "I was betrayed" because she had tried to help Star leave with dignity. At some point yesterday, Star's agents are told that yesterday was her last day. Barbara announces Star's earlier departure and some of the issues surrounding it on today's show, then Star calls Ryan Seacrest's LA radio show to tell her side of the early-departure story, and her feelings about Rosie. (Ironic that Star called Ryan, since his deal with E! lost her the E! Red Carpet gig.)

Star, I don't have much respect for you for a lot of reasons, but have you no sense of dignity madam, at long last? Have you left no sense of dignity?
