Rainy Sunday

jlhI'm pleased because I finally fucking wrote, this morning, and will be writing in a moment, because I know where I'm headed. Sheesh.
During midday, however, I was at the NY Auto Show which was pretty awesome. There was much squeeing over Minis by all of us, including a super-cute orange convertible with racing stripes. soupkills eyed some Audis. I commented to calloocallay that I thought we had to sign something saying we would only ever drive Saabs before they would give us our PhDs. I'm not sure why, but there is little sexier than the back of a Jaguar. The Volvo exhibit was dead boring, though it included a bizarre "get your picture taken with a child-sized crash dummy" that I felt took safety where it didn't need to go. I further indulged my European import car fetish with lots of Ferraris, Mazeratis (neither of which we could touch) as well as BMWs and Mercedes, while I mostly ignored the American and Japanese cars. There also were a few interesting concept cars.
I just love the way that cars look and all that car culture though I know for me it's become idealized because I've spent most of my adult life here in NYC where I don't have to drive. That said, a big reason I'd like to spend a little time up in Maine this summer is so I can drive my mother's Mustang convertible one last time before she sells it.
Before and after the show there was plenty of pub food and a few pints and some seriously excellent company. What a great day!
