Since I couldn't join Ali in kicking homeless people back in NYC, I instead dedicated my day to the conspicuous consumption of fossil fuels.

I drove (that's right, me alone!) from Venice to Pasadena, a 30-mile 50-minute trip. just to have lunch with a friend! We ate ersatz home cooking full of processed foods (mmm, bacon with sulfites), fat (mmm, american cheese) and sugar (mmm, raspberry iced tea) and then I drove back to Venice--again, by myself! On a croweded highway full of other single drivers!

I also bought a shirt at a malll, an enormous structure where I parked for free, thus encouraging me to drive there by myself rather than taking the bus or some such horrible thing.

Then my friend unnecessarily drove home from work, picked me up, then drove back to a restaurant near work to meet friends for dinner. Mmm, Indian food altered to American tastes. Mmm. After that we put the top down and went for a drive for about 90 minutes, down the PCH and then in the canyons. Why? Because we could, and because he has the sweetest little convertible sports car. (Also because it was a beautiful night, especially up in Calabassas and around all those ranches, and I'm a big car whore.)

So we'd better start some war over oil, because we need to refill that tank with cheap gas.

::sighs:: Sounds like so much fun. I could just picture everything.

Imagine having to pay for parking at a shopping centre! You do in Sydney apparently. What cheek! "Please pay to have the privledge to spend more money and make us even richer." Sheesh. I guess there isn't much call to drive in New York, is there? I drive for at least an hour and a half every work day. ::sighs again::

Anyway, it all sounds like enormous fun. I'm jealous. :) Except for the American food, that is. Can't cope with it, I'm afraid. That awful orange cheese! Blech. Everything processed to death. Double blech. Still your donuts are divine, best in the world! Australian donuts suck compared to American donuts. Ohhhh, and you have the best butter popcorn too. Geez, I'm getting hungry now...

Hi! First of all, latest EWFS: yum! Have rev'd. Total squee to see that there's another chapter being britpicked as we speak.

Fortunately I saw your nice note about me on johnwalton's journal (earlier this week), after I did the review. Don't want you to think I was just sucking up in return; EWFS is one of THE fics I look forward to the most. It's so like life, only better! I've so enjoyed the gradual revelations (and the fact that each chapter surprises me) that when you bring it to a conclusion it'll be like losing a friend. Of course, I can then go read it again and rec it in entirety to friends and so on...

In other news, have been AWOL on boards. Hope to be back soon, though. Yargh. RL.

And then of course I wanted to say that this particular LJ entry is too hysterically funny. JLH can do satire too - amazingly well. (Makes note to ask her to write more!)

That's all for now but - thanks for the kind words, and most of all, for your WORK! / fangirlishly / eq
