The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: As has been reported elsewhere,
mistful,
ladyjaida,
orangewatcher and I have become some kind of unholy movie quartet. We saw Narnia last night in beautiful downtown Brooklyn (actually, this is not true, but close enough). I didn't read Narnia as a child, but as a teen, so I'm not that emotionally tied up in the story. I found the adaptation to be everything that one would want, particularly the effects which were so good that one didn't even notice them. Edmund was still sulky and annoying, Peter bossy and annoying, Susan smug and annoying, and Lucy cute.
We saw a pile of previews for upcoming Disney films including something about a pack of dogs stranded near the south pole in which only the dogs were named, not the actors. Gotta love Disney.
Brokeback Mountain: There are a bunch of homophobes over at Yahoo!Movies giving the film an F and bringing the average down to a B, yammering about how no one wants to see a homo movie and that real cowboys are American heroes and would never be gay. *sigh* (I would like to note that while you can see the spread of grades on reviews, I can't see the spread for the 732 grades that users gave.) Of the 154 reviews on the site as of Saturday night, 90 were A+ and 29 more were A or A-. The consensus is sort of amazing. So I did my part by rating all the homophobic reviews "unhelpful" and giving it my own A+ grade.
Meanwhile, I took the new quiz and I'm Remus Lupin. I'm always Remus Lupin. I'm untroubled by this, just surprised by the consistency of the results.
