I'm going to spam you guys because so much has been going on and I want to do PR in digestible chunks with lots of detail because [livejournal.com profile] mistful demands it.

First, Monday night I came home mostly to my cat, but also to [livejournal.com profile] ziggy1278 with tickets to Damien Rice at Radio City, and it was a truly amazing concert, much more sonically interesting than the production of his records might lead you to expect. He's also quite a showman; no Elliott Smith is Damien Rice. I wish the woman behind us hadn't been singing along quite so often, but at least she was on key. Damien was in great voice, which was a good thing as Lisa was back in Dublin working on her own album. TONS of percussion which you know I love, and also cello. Now I know why Z has seen him so many times.

Also after American Idol last night [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose and I watched On the Lot, the new filmmaker competitive reality show from Steven Speilberg. It was fantastic, but what was even better was watching it with Ali, a film school graduate who works in the industry. Listening to her handicap the contestants as they did their pitches was brilliant. You can see her recap of the show here. Between So You Think You Can Dance, On the Lot, and Top Chef this is going to be reality summer, man.

I haven't seen Veronica Mars yet because I was doing all of that, but on my first night in NOLA I did watch the CSI season finale with [livejournal.com profile] alissomora and [livejournal.com profile] eibbil_libbie. Spoilery thoughts on CSI )

I'll watch the resolution of this plot, but after that it's going off the TIVO. The maybe yes maybe no of the character arcs, plus their still going to Nick to be the dumb guy after all these years, has me burned out. It's sad, because VM has ended, Studio 60 never really got started, that Henry VIII thing was disappointing, so the only scripted shows I'm really watching right now are Ugly Betty and How I Met Your Mother, which are both comedies. Everyone wants me watching BSG, and I'll probably just watch Heroes with everyone else since that seems to be the show we'll be group watching next, but I'll admit I'm not particularly enthusiastic about either. Eh, I should be watching less TV anyway, yeah?

Less TV, more music! The new Maroon 5 CD is out and I'm really liking it. I'm sure it will be near the top of my songs of this summer and I can't wait to see them in concert! Never mind OMG NEW CROWDED HOUSE which requires the Neil icon.

I'm going to do separate posts on the papers/panels and Bourbon Street.

I also want to say, here, that while I had a really good time at The Witching Hour, it had its problems (though not the ones that were wanked about). Phoenix Rising was an impeccably run con, and I want to commend [livejournal.com profile] praetorianguard and her team for being mature enough to learn the lessons of TWH and apply them to the next project. We all make mistakes, but it's an adult who learns from them. I had a great time at PR, and everyone commented on how well everything went. Congrats to them!

Monday morning I left, sharing a cab with Christine, and came home, changed, and ran out to the Damien Rice concert. So you could say that Z bookended my trip!
