Winter for Poland and France
Jan. 8th, 2006 10:19 amThis might be my new, I saw a movie last night icon.
Last night
bowdlerized and I saw The Producers, and I pretty much agree with Ty Burr's review in the Boston Globe. In a non-spoilery way I will say that I loved the original film, didn't catch the show on Broadway, and I adore movie musicals. With all that in mind, my feeling on The Producers is, it's fine. If you want to see it, you should see it, but as Burr says, see it in a large, packed theater because you need that laughing audience. Lane and Broderick are wonderful, even if they aren't Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder (and for more musings on that, see Roger Ebert's review). Uma Thurman is a surprise, a good solid singer and dancer, and Will Farrell is pitch-perfect, so much so that I'd go see him in a musical on the real Broadway.
Oh, and if do you go, stay through the credits. You'll be rewarded.
